Nicole: Hempstead tutor
Certified Tutor
Learning has always been a big part of my life, both inside and outside of the classroom. I am currently completing my Master's degree in One Health with a concentration in Biomedical Science and hold a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries with a minor in Marine Biology. Through my experience working in education, research, and mentoring roles, I have seen how the right support can make a huge difference for students.
As a student, I personally benefited from working with tutors during my time in high school and college. I know what it's like to struggle with tough subjects and how important it is to have someone in your corner who can explain things clearly and help you build confidence. That experience shapes how I tutor today: breaking down complicated material into manageable steps, finding what works best for each student, and encouraging them every step of the way.
I tutor biology, environmental science, writing, public speaking, and math, including algebra. I especially love teaching biology because it connects to real-world systems, and helping students see those connections can be incredibly empowering. I also enjoy helping students gain confidence in math by showing them clear, structured ways to approach problems.
My teaching style is patient, flexible, and focused on creating a positive, encouraging space where students feel comfortable asking questions and growing their skills. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy scuba diving, hiking, and working on science communication projects to make information accessible and engaging for everyone.

Undergraduate Degree: University of Alaska Fairbanks - Bachelor of Science, Fishing and Fisheries
Graduate Degree: University of Alaska Fairbanks - Master of Science, Biomedical Sciences
Outside of my academic and professional work, I love exploring the natural world. I am an avid scuba diver, with experience in both cold and warm water, though my favorite is ice diving. I also enjoy hiking, camping, and learning about ecosystems firsthand. When I'm not outside, you can find me curled up with an adventure book or crafting something fun, whether through sewing or knitting. I have a passion for underwater photography and love finding new ways to combine my interests in communication, nature, and lifelong learning.
