I hugely enjoy teaching, and over the 15 years or so that I have been doing it, have tried to share my passion and enthusiasm with my students.
I have taught students of all ages - my youngest were about 7, and my oldest well over 80 years old! My aim is always to combine clear learning objectives structured around the curriculum, with also ensuring that learning is fun.
My particular specialisms are history, literature and politics, and I am familiar with both US AP and high school syllabuses, as well as UK GCSE and A Level. I am very comfortable teaching more general courses like General Studies (UK), and GED/ACT/SAT (US).
I took my undergraduate degree in literature at the University of Cambridge, and completed my PhD in history at the University of Wolverhampton. I am a Fellow of the International Society of First World War Studies. I also worked for 15 years as a communications director for large organizations, so I have plenty of experience teaching public speaking and presentation skills.
I like to take the time to get to know my students, so if you think you might be interested in working with me, then we can spend some time in the first session doing that, and establishing how you like to learn!
I look forward to meeting you.

Graduate Degree: University of Wolverhampton - Doctor of Philosophy, History
Academically, my special interests are history, literature and politics. In history, I am especially interested in C19 and C20 European and US history; my PhD was on the way in which the First World War is commemorated. In literature, my interests are wide-ranging, but I have a particular love of poetry (and even write a little!). In politics, I enjoy teaching US, British and comparative politics. Outside "work", I enjoy hiking, reading, gardening, and looking after two cats. Although I was born in the UK, I am married to an American, and have settled in Detroit. Michigan.
