I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am an experienced educator specializing in teaching reading, writing and related subject areas to struggling students. I work with students who have learning disabilities or challenges that affect their academic performance. I aim to help students develop confidence and reach their full potential. Sometimes, I have to work on basic skills that students did not master in earlier grades. This is hard to do with older students, but I'm very good at it. My students appreciate how they never feel like I'm insulting their intelligence when we have to build on basic skills, and they gain confidence as they improve in their schoolwork. They also appreciate my sense of humor, which is natural to me and I incorporate into my lessons. Humor helps students learn and remember and makes sessions fun.

I have a BA in English from Temple University. I completed teacher education courses at Kutztown University. In addition, I have pursued my interest in art and design and received a BFA in Visual Communications. I worked in public schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I have been working as a full-time tutor since 2017 when I worked for a local tutoring center with a focus on dyslexic students. I was trained in dyslexia remediation programs and attended a weeklong workshop focused on helping struggling writers.

I've been tutoring full-time on my own since 2022. I work with students from public, private and homeschool. I have worked to develop interactive and effective online sessions.
