Certified Tutor

I have a Masters of Teaching from Georgia State University in Behavior and Learning Disorders. I currently teach 7th grade ELA in a National Blue Ribbon School in Georgia. I am a certified Reading Specialist and I hold a Gifted Endorsement. I truly love learning, and I believe the greatest way to impact a person's life is to teach them to love to learn. Learning may be difficult for a multitude of reasons, but learning does not need to be dreadful. When we make learning accessible, students can engage, and that is when learning happens and students thrive. I am experienced teaching and tutoring in the following areas:

- Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Grammar, Poetry) grades 6-12
- Reading, Phonics, Literacy Interventions grades K-12
- Executive Functioning Skills, Study Skills, and Organizational Strategies grades 6-12

I am particularly passionate about working with students and adults with dyslexia. My daughter is dyslexic, and I absolutely love her brain. The dyslexic brain has such an incredible ability to visualize in dimensions that most of us can't even comprehend. We are beginning to learn more about this, and I am convinced that soon we will understand enough to see the superpower we've been missing because we've all been focused only on the weakness. I am on a mission to help as many children and adults with dyslexia develop their reading skills, but do so while building confidence and trust in their strengths. This is what drove me to leave a successful business career and become a teacher.

Prior to teaching, I spent 10+ years in business. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Human Resource Management. When I left the corporate world to learn more about what was happening with my daughter's difficulty learning to read, I was Vice President of Organizational Development of a publicly traded company. I have vast experience with HR, business process design, leadership development, customer experience, management, resume writing, and interview skills.

Hobbies

I love to travel - I've been to every continent but Africa and Antarctica! We play a lot of tennis in our family, and we watch a lot of college football. We love boating and hiking. I love LEGOS! My most recent project was the retro typewriter. Ok - you know I have to say it, right? I love to read. What kind of ELA teacher would I be if I didn't list this as one of my favorite things? I also love sharing book recommendations ( kids, young adult, and adult), so ask me what I'm reading!
