Hard work will open more doors than innate talent. As a tutor, I foster this belief by encouraging my students to enhance their study and organizational skills while expanding their knowledge base in their requested tutoring subject. As each person possesses individual traits, so does their learning style. I utilize each student's' unique perspectives and skills to maximum their potential as a learner. My passion lies with helping all students achieve their highest academic success, but a majority of my current clientele are neurodivergent students.
I have been in the educational field for more than a decade working with a variety of students in a multiple of topics. I started with AmeriCorps serving K-2 as an RTI interventionist for reading comprehension and mathematics. Currently, I am serving as a STEM instructor through TRIO's Upward Bound Scholars Academy in which I strive to fortify first generation and low-income students' STEM interests and understanding through study hall and after school tutoring and weekly, after-school courses. While in college, I worked as a teaching assistant for bacteriology, personal health, and epidemiology. Most relevantly, I have been private tutoring for almost 6 years in primarily STEM subjects of geometry, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, biology, physics, and statistics. I most enjoy tutoring any subject in mathematics because of the gratification you feel after solving a problem; how many of life's problems can be solved in such a short timeframe with full resolution like a 90's sitcom?!
Throughout my concurrent teaching adventures, I also obtained a bachelors in ACS Biochemistry and another in Biomedical Sciences. I am currently completing my Master of Public Health and Masters in Biology pending completion of my theses. All my degrees were acquired through Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Outside of academia, I spend my time caring for my large dogs, Cloud, a Great Pyrenees, and Yuffie, a Great Dane. We enjoy lots of play time and walks. These pups even have some of their food fashioned by yours truly! I also enjoy cooking for myself and my husband in addition to gardening. In the evening, you will catch me reading fiction or books about medicine or even playing video and computer games to decompress.
