Certified Tutor

I'm in my last semester at Valparaiso University studying Professional Writing and Psychology, with a Spanish minor. I had other goals for my career, but when I started working at the writing center on campus, I simply fell in love with tutoring. Now as I prepare for life after graduation, I really want to continue tutoring as much as I can.
This is what I love to do because it isn't just about the subject matter; for me, it's also about forming positive relationships with my clients. I've found that many of my clients and peers aren't confident in their abilities, but often, they just need someone to support them--that's where I come in, and that's what makes tutoring so rewarding to me. It's really important to me to connect with my clients and establishing a trusting relationship, and I always want to show that I am on your side. Your specific goals are what drive our sessions; however, my personal philosophy is to make a better student, not just a better assignment!
I believe that one of the best ways to learn is through fostering relationships and conversations with others. And, when we can connect and get along, learning the subject matter becomes much more pleasant.

When we meet for the first time, I'l begin by simply chatting with you and getting to know you as a student and as a person. I may ask a lot of questions about your feelings toward the subject, or about your strengths and weaknesses as a student.
After we are comfortable, we can start talking about how we can best use our time together to set you up for success!
