Certified Tutor
As an educator and former adjunct professor of political science, I am passionate about supporting students in realizing their academic goals. Currently, I work with students and young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this capacity, I lead transition services preparing students for post-secondary opportunities. I also develop and implement curricula for various age groups at a school for students with autism including social studies, English Language Arts, science, and career and technical education. My experience with students includes children between the ages of 5 and 21 as well as post-secondary students in both college and high school equivalency programs.
I completed undergraduate and graduate studies at the University at Albany where I earned a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in religious studies and a Master of Arts in political science. Subsequently, I earned a Master in Public Administration (MPA) from Marist College and a Master of Science in rehabilitation counseling at the University at Buffalo. Rehabilitation counseling focuses on supporting the career and life skills development and outcomes of students and adults with disabilities.
I tutor students in an array of subjects including social studies, English Language Arts (reading, writing, and literature), history, civics and government, and study and organization skills. My teaching philosophy is consistent across my work with all age groups: I believe it is important for students to be empowered learners through the use of scaffolding. With scaffolding, I am able to provide supports that are faded over time as a student masters the concept(s) being taught. I also believe it is critical to connect academic learning to real life through the practical application of what is being learned to situations encountered in everyday life.
