I graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Linguistics and a BA in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (with a focus on Arabic language) in 2017. My minors were Folklore and Ethnomusicology, Spanish, and International Studies (with a concentration on human rights and international law). Immediately after graduation I began a dual MA/PhD program where I received my MA in Geography in 2019 and am expecting to receive my PhD in Geography in 2021 (upon completion of my dissertation). My research focus currently is on diaspora and imagined futures of home and homeland.
Over the past three years I have taught geography classes to undergraduates including: Regions of the World, and Human Geography in the Changing World. I absolutely love teaching students and witnessing their growth, excitement, and passion throughout each semester. For the past 6 years or so I have been a tutor for both Spanish and Arabic for university and high school students. Additionally, I have been a tutor and instructor both locally and abroad for English as a new language with refugee and immigrant populations. I love to tutor language courses as well as geography courses the most, but any social science or humanity courses are welcome.
My teaching philosophy and goal is to always increase student understanding while creating and developing student interest and excitement for the subject/topic.
Outside of academia I am involved in many local organizations that assist refugees and immigrants. I love to workout and eat all the delicious foods that my husband makes (he's a great baker). And of course, reading is one of my biggest hobbies. I am always available to both give and receive great book recommendations to fellow bibliophiles.
