I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

You want a tutor who understands your individual needs and who can plan a long term path to success, with your goals in mind. As an accredited teacher with 7 years experience planning and delivering high quality instruction, I know how to assess students' needs, and develop a plan to achieve their goals.

My first experience as an educator was in the Peace Corps in Albania, where I taught English as a Foreign Language and helped local teachers develop new materials and lesson plans.

After the Peace Corps, I returned to Boston, where I earned a Master's Degree in teaching. As a graduate student, I was taught the 'Scope and Sequence' and 'Backwards Planning' methods of curriculum development. These methods ensure that instruction begins with the end in mind and that each lesson builds sequentially up to the ultimate goals of the course.

During and after my Master's program, I taught in urban public schools in Massachusetts for four years, where I had the chance to practice lesson planning and curriculum development in the real world. That meant that I could see, in real time, the effect that my curriculum had on students. When my plans did not meet students' needs, I could tell right away, and I could adjust my plans to make sure that they would achieve their goals.

In my 7 years in the classroom, I have taught English as a Foreign Language, English Language Arts, and Science. My particular focus, though, has been History and Social Studies (Western Civilization, World History, Modern History). I am fluent in Spanish and I am also licensed to teach Middle School Math.

I hope you'll consider me as an ongoing tutor because I really value the opportunity--not just to be a homework helper--but to actually make a plan and follow through on it and see my students become more skillful and knowledgeable day by day until they achieve their goals.
