Certified Tutor

I am an expert teacher with nine years of formal teaching experience and over a decade of tutoring and teaching experience. I have worked with all levels of secondary English, from occupational courses to AP Literature and Composition, from ninth grade to twelfth grade. I am a graduate with Distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, both for my undergraduate and graduate studies, and I hold a Masters in the Art of Teaching (M.A.T.), a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English, and a minor in Creative Writing. I love working with and teaching groups of students, as well as tutoring one-on-one in specific subject areas.

I have taught in different levels of schools as well as students, from a rural vocational school in southern North Carolina, to a high-achieving college preparatory school in the state's capital, to an Expeditionary Learning (EL) college-prep school in western North Carolina, all with high levels of success. No matter what academic achievements or prior test scores the students came into my classes with (or without), they always left my classes and tutoring sessions with high growth, higher test scores, and a better understanding of English literature, language, and writing. In most recent years, I have taught and tutored for the AP Literature and Composition exam, ACT Reading, ACT Writing, and ACT English, as well as assigned and taught multiple research paper assignments and larger projects with real-world applications. In previous years, I tutored and taught for all SAT English and Writing sections. I specialize in English literature, language, grammar, and writing, as well as ESL.
