Certified Tutor

The greatest teachers of humanity's past taught primarily through one method, a method that has since been ignored and replaced by standardized testing, worksheets, and "covering" as much material as possible. That method was story. I have made that method my primary focus throughout my educational career.

In college, I double majored in History and Religion, adding my secondary Social Studies teacher's license as well. I was not drawn into those subjects by facts, dates, or feelings, but by the stories contained within. Those stories provided the backdrop to all of the great achievements of ancient civilizations as well as providing examples from which to learn what to do or what not to do. In teaching my own students, I focus on the same.

To me, History is the story of the past, the people and places that made it what it was, not the rote memorization of facts, dates, names, and outcomes. Using those stories, I help students learn to make connections between past events, people, and places as well as seeing how those events, people, and places impact today's world. Story, therefore, is the great vehicle which guides all I do. History is a story. Life is a story. You are the author of your own story. My goal is simple: to help you write your best story, using History and test prep as a guide.
