I have 15+ years experience in the classroom and as a private tutor, and I love it! My rigorous educational background has given me a depth of knowledge in a variety of subjects. I have had a long career as an ecologist and environmental scientist both in academia and the private and public sector. I enjoy teaching in all sorts of settings, but I think tutoring one-on-one may be the most rewarding. I have a knack for recognizing a student's learning style and adjusting my approach. I like the challenge of having to think on my feet to explain a concept in a way that an individual student can understand. The big reward is seeing that "Aha" moment when a student gains an understanding of a concept that had eluded them. I have a B.A. with honors from Rice University, with a double major in Biology and Environmental Science & Engineering and a PhD in Ecology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I was the recipient of a National Merit Scholarship for a PSAT score in the top two percent of scores. and scored in the 98th percentile in the biology section of the GED, the test taken to apply to graduate programs.
