Certified Tutor

I am a recent graduate of Brown University, where I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (concentrating in English), and also of Dickinson College, where I earned a BA in English with minors in French and Creative Writing. Last year, I was a student-teacher at Moses Brown, an independent Quaker school in Rhode Island, and taught two sections of 9th-grade English. Before that, I was Co-Head Tutor at Dickinsons writing center and helped college students across all majors, as well as graduate students from the U.S. Army War College, with any writing assignment at any stage. My teaching philosophy is to find joy in academic pursuits, whether it is writing an essay, studying for a standardized test, or practicing French (all of which I can help you with). Unfortunately, contemporary education puts pressure on these things by subjecting them to constant evaluation, and its hard to enjoy school when everything we do in it is for a grade. When I teach, I aim to alleviate that pressure by helping students view reading, writing, and critical thinking less as tasks to be performed and more as natural, human means of expression and exploration. I would not have come to enjoy writing, literature, and the other humanities had my own teachers not helped me gain that perspective. Outside academia, Im an avid tennis player (and watcher) and love playing all kinds of board and card games. Im also quite passionate about Ancient Egypt.
