I first became interested in tutoring and teaching back in high school when I got involved in tutoring elementary and middle school students for FCAT prep. As I progressed through my four years at Northwestern I found tutoring and teaching high school students and my peers to be something I very much enjoyed, so I am seeking to continue this since I have graduated.
I approach any subject by trying to reinforce the foundation of that subject while learning new concepts. If a student is working on algebra, while learning new information its good to reinforce the ideas and concepts learned in pre-algebra. This serves as a base for algebra. This helps students remember new ideas and concepts in the long term but also will help them develop a foundation to pick up information quicker while seeing an improvement in scores.
