Over many years of teaching and tutoring physics and mathematics, I have found that having a constructive and Socratic dialog with a student is one of the best ways to help him or her learn the material and be able to solve problems independently. A Socratic dialog is one in which the instructor or tutor asks guiding questions to help a student think about the next step in solving a problem, rather than having the instructor just solve the problem for the student. In my opinion, one of the best ways to truly understand anything is to do it yourself, and a tutor can serve as the "guide on the side" to make this happen more efficiently for the student who might be having trouble. Using this method myself with many students over the years has been very fruitful for them, and I have been overjoyed to receive thank-you notes from appreciative students, sometimes many years after I have tutored them. To me, this is one of the best things in life!

I love to learn, and so I do a lot of reading, primarily science books. From an academic perspective, I enjoy doing physics and mathematics research with colleagues. Otherwise, in my little spare time, I enjoy hiking and spending quality time with my family.
