My teaching philosophy is to give all of the possible resources so the student can have the best opportunity to develop their understanding.

The first session, I want to find out why they want the tutoring, and what is their overall goal to these sessions. This gives me the best understanding of what I need to do to get them where they want to go.

A student needs to figure out the best learning method for themselves. Everyone learns subjects differently. Once you know how your brain works, you can learn anything.

Keep track of their progress. I will show them how far they have already gone, in order to encourage them to go further. As well as, I have always been motivated by little breaks. So, having them work as hard as they can in order to get a little me-time.

First, I would give them a break from this topic. It has been said that if you move on and come back to a concept, your subconscious is continuously working on it. Then, I'll come back after enough time to approach the concept and explain using a different method such as visually.

As someone who struggled a lot with reading comprehension at a young age, I think practice makes perfect, as well as leading by example. So, I can go over a paragraph and explain what I understand, and then have the student do the same with the next paragraph.

I think a great strategy I found was having the student walk through the problem out loud themselves until they need a little help. Then, I would give them hints for them to figure out how to approach the problem. I feel actively learning like this allows a better understanding.

Usually, a student who feels like they do not understand something is not excited to learn. I would start with simplified problems to show they do know how to do this subject, and afterward, slowly introduce harder problems with a pace that works for them.

Anything that works for the student. If I need to use car examples because that's what they are interested in, I will do that, or if they need directions read out loud, I will do that as well. Every student is different, and the best technique for every student is to be adaptable.

I build confidence by showing they are capable of learning this subject with a gradual learning process at an appropriate pace for the student.

I would first evaluate by listening to the student on what they understand and struggle with. Then, I would verify these ideas with practice questions to get a feel for where they are starting at and what they need to learn.

First, you need to understand what they need. So, figuring out what they need and how they learn. I would then try different methods of teaching to see what works best. Using these different methods will allow for me to tutor based on what's best for the student.

I use whiteboards for examples. I am also a big person on visual concepts, so I'll have documents of graphs. Flashcards are usually very effective as well. But, I am willing to get any material they need.
