What is your teaching philosophy?

To help students become better learners so that they can one day impact the world.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know the student, figure out what they like to do when learning and what helps them best.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help them by taking different approach to teaching, so that they do stay interested.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would break things down step by step and take different approaches to the subject.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would have them explain to me what they learned and/or have them teach me what they learned.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would help them by reading each paragraph slowly out loud, and then have them summarize what they just read.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Having them repeat what they learned by teaching me.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Relate whatever they are struggling into something that they love, whether it be sports, art or music.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

As a part of a sorority that focuses on building confidence, i would make sure the student doesn't beat him or herself up over not understanding. I would constantly reassure the student that they are smart and can get through their struggle.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I will watch the student with how they complete work. See what needs to be done to help them understand their struggling subject needs.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Being a pretty flexible person, I will just sit back and take a minute to see what the student's needs are, and then attend to those needs.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Depending on the student and what they are struggling with, dry erase boards have always been helpful; images help a lot, and even games.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would show empathy to the student by listening and learning about the student.
