Certified Tutor
I have tutored every grade level and taught at the university level. I have learned so much from my experiences working with students of all ages, and I am excited to continue sharing my passion for teaching with students.
At the University of Texas El Paso, I taught core labs within the Environmental Science Department, as well as teaching a Weather and Climate class. With younger students, I have years of teaching elementary, middle school, and high school math, science, and reading. My favorite subjects to tutor are physical science, earth science, and math.
I look forward to tutoring. I am very patient, kind and full of great study tips! I had trouble with school when I was young so I know how hard it can be to understand what you are doing. That's why I am so passionate about helping my students!

What is your teaching philosophy?
There is a formula for every lesson. Mine is: Review+teach+discuss+apply=knowledge!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will find out what my student is interested in so that I can draw examples from things he/she can relate to.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will give my students good study habits while tutoring them.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Give them a call midweek to give them a study tip and encourage them.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would use things they could see and touch as an example of the skill or concept. I would also create an example using the student's hobbies or interests as the subject.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
We would go slow, sound out the words, and learn what they rhyme with.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I keep learning interesting by engaging my students in discussion. This makes them part of the learning process.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I will show them how that subject applies directly to their life.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I will give them exercises to work through which apply the concepts and skills we are learning.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I enjoy praising my students, high-fiving them (if that makes them happy) or giving them stickers (younger students).
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Whiteboard, small items for counting, pen and paper, crayons or colored pencils, laptop with lessons, books, and highlighters.
