What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that every individual learns differently. Often, the common classroom method does not resonate with every student. I build my lessons and study sessions around the unique needs of my students.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would ask to see any previous work they had recently completed to get an understanding of their needs. We would go over the study guide or chapter from the base up; fundamental understanding of any subject is essential. Once the content has been assessed, I would talk with the student to see what kind of learner they are and work on from there.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I tend to lean on a discovery-based style of teaching where I am more facilitating a student’s learning than giving them the facts. Of course, I am still helping students directly; however, this method allows students to uncover their own abilities and problem-solving strategies.
