Certified Tutor
I graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a dual BA in Economics and Psychology, with a Math minor. I also have a MBA from UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School with a Finance Concentration. I recently completed my MS in Finance from Georgetown. I have worked for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, investment banks, and a private equity firm; so, I have experience in the applied application of academic theory.
I am adept at teaching economics and finance, as well as topics in math, statistics, business administration, and standardized testing including several of the Series Exams.
My teaching philosophy begins with understanding a student's goals and helping them achieve success both inside and outside of the classroom. I can use elements of a student's background to relate complex subjects in a way that is more familiar with the student.
Outside of work, I am an avid sports fan, lover of books and movies, meeting new people and hanging out with friends. I enjoy traveling, having been to 19 countries on 4 continents and 33 US states.
I look forward to helping your achieve your goals.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I focus on the individual, learn their goals, and execute a bespoke plan for attaining those goals.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Help the student understand the course in the larger context of their academic experience and how they can leverage their experience to attain their goals.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I use working on problems, asking the student to describe the material to me, and testing.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Repetition. Once someone starts to build mastery of the material, they build confidence. Once they have confidence, then we can proceed to more difficult subject matter.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Ask the student for their own assessment, ask the parent(s) for their assessment, ask other instructors for their assessment, check transcripts, and ask the student & parent(s) their educational goals and beyond.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Each student has a different set of circumstances surrounding their academic experience, and the first step is to learn those circumstances.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use books, websites, and personal experience.
