Chris: Plainfield tutor
Certified Tutor
I have been teaching for over ten years. I grew up in Morristown, NJ and went to the Morris School District, where I have been working for the past two years as a 6th grade Language-Arts teacher. Before that, I spent over five years at a private tutoring company called Lindamood-Bell.
I have worked with students of all ages (5-55), and in many subjects, including test prep.
For fun, I love playing and watching all kinds of sports: football, baseball, basketball, softball, hockey, golf, frisbee golf, ultimate frisbee, soccer, skateboarding, snowboarding, etc.
I also have played drumset for over ten years and music is a major passion in my life, whether I am listening or playing.
I firmly believe that all students can learn. I hope you decide to work with me in the future.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy of education is that all students can learn, and if you actually care about them, they will.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know them. Without proper rapport, there will be more obstacles than usual.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By working with them, finding out their strengths and weaknesses, and showing them how to maximize their time and effort based on their abilities.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Any way possible. Motivation is key to education. I have an endless list of tricks that I can use and I constantly employ them while teaching.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Work with them until they begin to learn. I will use any resources available to me whether they be online, text, or the vocal opinion of another educator.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I get them engaged in reading so they understand that it is a way to experience life, not just a "chore" that their teachers make them do.
