I graduated Duke University with a Bachelor of Science in biology. Although biology is my primary field of study, the scope of my tutoring experiences also include areas such as organic chemistry and mathematics, with particular emphasis on the former. Three years of tutoring organic chemistry to more than 100 students (both in group and one-on-one) at Duke University has equipped me with the skills necessary to be an effective tutor. My time tutoring has made apparent to me that everyone comes from different backgrounds, learns in different ways, and has different skillsets. Because of this, I have learned that it is best to teach a given topic by engaging as many senses as possible so that I can cater to the diverse learning styles of my students. I couple this strategy with frequently asking questions as well as providing practice problems, tips, tricks, and summary tables/sheets to assess and verify comprehension of material being taught. By ensuring that my students understand a given topic before I move on, I have found that I have been able to create a more comfortable and enjoyable learning environment. Teaching has been a passion of mine since an early age; this passion recently took me to Vietnam, where I spent two months designing and implementing ESL lesson plans for over 30 fifth grade-eighth grade students. You can rest assured that I will do everything in my power to cater my lesson plans to your specific needs.
