As a current M.A candidate, I strongly believe in education empowerment and the gift of knowledge. I've been involved in the education in a myriad of ways: I've taught both in the States and abroad, tutored, trained teachers, taken academic courses, and worked with education policy.
Half of learning is understanding the material, and the other half is understanding yourself and how you need to relate to the material. I think a well rounded, successful student needs to focus on both aspects in order to be prepared for a lifetime of learning, and I'd love to help each and every student in their pursuit of that "lightbulb" moment.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe the true purpose of teaching is to empower a student to not only understand that subject, but have the confidence and tools to begin understanding any subject hereafter.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I'd like to get to know the student--how he/she likes to learn, how he/she doesn't like to learn, what he/she considers his/her strengths and weaknesses, and what he/she wants to accomplish.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By empowering the student to understand how he/she learns and what the material is asking for, not just how to find the answer on a one-time basis.
