Remi
Certified Tutor
I am a current college senior doubling majoring in International Studies (World Politics & Diplomacy) and Anthropology with a minor in Linguistics. I am passionate about the work I do, both in and out of the classroom, and cherish the work that allows me to help people. I have fairly extensive tutoring experience with a variety of subjects, ages, and backgrounds. This includes tutoring middle school math, English as a Second Language (ESL) for adults, grammar and writing for young students to college students, and Arabic through my university. My goal for each student is to take something frustrating and working through it together to make it not only approachable for them but also something they are then confident in. I love listening to the students, tackling the subject based on their terms and needs, and seeing progress over the sessions. I prioritize attainable goals, positive attitudes, and respect during each and every tutoring session.
Outside working with students, I love to read, be creative, and travel. I love getting into an extremely captivating book and being absorbed into that world. Making time to be creative is very important to me, whether its painting, sculpting, or doodling I need to let those creative juices flow. I have been very lucky to be able to travel a lot and living abroad. I have been able to live in the United States, England, and Denmark as well as travel around Europe and some parts of the Middle East. These all connect with my love of languages, politics, and culture thus allowing me to learn from each interpersonal connection I make through my tutoring experiences.
I am very excited to work with a variety of students with diverse interests and needs. I look forward to creating a space with the students for learning, confidence-building, and respect.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Adaptability is the key to teaching in my opinion. Each person has different needs and a unique basis of understanding; it's a tutor's responsibility to adapt and learn about the student to give them what will serve them best. Listening will unlock what is necessary for this flexible communication.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will get to know the student by asking them about themselves outside school, in the classroom, and what their goals are. All of that will tailor future lesson plans, as it'll be a base for us to work from. Learning about their struggles and aspirations in the first session is crucial to developing a strong relationship and open communication in the future.
