I love to help my students feel more confident in their studies and to see them succeed. We will work on the foundations to build confidence and make a surefooted progress toward your subject goals. We try to figure out what is not working for you and reinforce what you are already doing well. If you don't understand it one way, we'll look for other ways to help you understand and learn. I like helping students search for their interests and match them with what they are learning. I use different methods and look forward to tutoring. I currently teach ESL and Spanish, and also have extensive experience as a creative arts teacher and as a math tutor.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Working on the foundations to build confidence in the student and make a surefooted progress toward the subject goals.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Find out the student's background, interests, knowledge of the subject, and goals, as well as difficulties we will work to overcome to achieve success.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Give the student strong foundations and practice in the subject, as well as work on critical thinking skills to build confidence and independence.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Look for ways to relate the subject to the student's interests.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Use different approaches to explain and practice the skill or concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Practice looking for keywords; practice looking up the difficult words for the student; getting the overall picture; re-explaining the story in the student's words.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Finding out the students' strengths and interests, as well as what has been most difficult for the student to understand and its possible causes, in order to work them out.
