Certified Tutor

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from Siena College, a Masters of Science in General and Special Education from Touro College, and a School Building Leadership certificate from The College of Saint Rose. I am currently in my 10th year of teaching for the New York City Department of Education, and have taught English to a broad range of students across various grades and academic settings (general, self-contained, Collaborative Team Teaching, and Resource Room). At the moment, I teach English Literature to 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.

Over the past ten years, I have come to learn a great deal about what makes for good teaching, and can equip my students with the skills they need to effectively tackle the English Common Core Standards. I am proficient at teaching students active reading strategies as well as helping them identify and analyze the various literary elements, devices and techniques. In addition, I am particularly adept at scaffolding writing instruction for many of the different types of essays (argumentative, narrative, expository, etc.).
