As a former high school teacher, business professional, and current statistician I know and believe in the value of mathematics in today's society. I strive to help students accomplish their current tasks while reinforcing the fundamentals that will help them be independent learners in the future. Even if a student does not love math, it is important for them to work on the problem solving skills developed while learning mathematical concepts as those skills will be applicable in all areas of life.
I am personable and energetic and able to connect with many different types of students. I also have experience using math in the real world from my job in lumber sales & statistical consultations during my time at Colorado State University.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Find out what the student does in their time outside of the classroom, how they've done in the particular area we'll be studying, assess what their strengths and weaknesses are in that area, and find out their overall performance and interest in school.
What is your teaching philosophy?
All learning is a form of problem solving, like a puzzle. I like to help students use what they already know as the pieces that will help them form a new picture/solution.
