I love helping people. One of the sweetest experiences in life is helping someone else to reach their full potential. I have had many people like that that have tried to help me to reach my potential and so I would also love to help others to do the same. I'm a neuroscience major at BYU and I love music in every aspect (dancing, singing, listening, playing instruments, composing, etc.) I have worked with students sporadically since 2011. I tutor especially in mathematics, the sciences, and spanish. I believe that everyone learns differently and I strive to figure out how people learn to help them in the best way possible. I look forward to working with you!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Anyone can learn anything, but everyone learns through distinct methods and means. The key is to figure out how you learn, and then use that method to learn anything.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know them, their goals, their concerns and their struggles, and then lay out a structured teaching strategy based on their individual needs.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

You help a student see how they learn best, and then you let them use that method to learn independently.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

You set goals with the student, and then you celebrate the little steps that that student makes toward achieving their personal goals.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

You find a different way to teach the concept and make sure that the student understands the basic underlying principles behind the concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would help them break down reading situations and analyze each piece with them to help them understand, and also work myself to understand where they're struggling.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Focus on one principle a day and learn everything step by step.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

By seeing the practical application of each subject, and seeing each subject as a stepping stone towards their ultimate goal.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would make sure that they understand the material through original assessments and applications of the material.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

You help them to have success in the little things, and then gradually build up to having success in the more complicated subject matters.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Through assessments and through open, honest communication with the students to get their feedback.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

You identify your student's needs, and then you find a way to meet those needs according to how the student learns.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

The internet, reading material, paper, and pencil.
