I'm a long-time instructor at both the high school and college level with a Master's degree in English from Western Connecticut State University. Composition and literature are what I'm best at tutoring.
I have multiple approaches for all learning styles. I believe it is important to build confidence in a student and work with them on building up the skill set they already have. I use a variety of techniques and strategies and can take a student beyond rote memorization for grammar rules and mechanics. I believe it is important to get to know the students and find out what works best for them. People learn in different ways and the trick is to discover the key that unlocks their curiosity. Sometimes the classroom teacher simply doesn't have the time to ferret this out with thirty kids in the class.
