Certified Tutor

I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry with a minor in Cognitive Science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. I am currently working toward my Ph.D. in Biology at Washington University in St. Louis. My previous tutoring experience involves tutoring one-on-one with elementary students in Spanish. I have also served as a Teaching Assistant in Cognitive Science as an undergraduate and for a biology course in graduate school, where I led test preparation and ran a discussion section. My strengths are in the sciences, especially biology and chemistry, as well as standardized test preparation and study skills. I think my favorite subject to tutor would be biology, where I am personally most knowledgeable and for which I have a passion because of the amazing feats of life all around us. I believe that the first step in connecting with a student as a tutor is listening and working with the student to identify where their strengths are and what they want to improve. From there, every kind of material can be improved upon; it just takes a little perseverance. When not working in the lab or tutoring, I am an avid runner and cyclist. I enjoy exploring new restaurants. What I enjoy most is gardening, when it is warm out, and taking care of the plants while watching them grow.
