Jules: Sussex tutor
Certified Tutor
I graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Linguistics. I have extensive experience working with individuals with autism, and I plan on getting my Master's in Speech Pathology. Before moving to Florida, I had quite a bit of classroom experience in a variety of subjects from music to English as a second language. However, I ultimately found it most rewarding to tutor students one-on-one; not only was I able to individualize lesson plans to their specific needs, but it was gratifying to clearly see my student academically grow. My favorite subjects to tutor would be Math and Languages. I see Math as number puzzles. I believe almost every complex equation can be solved with a series of simple equations; the puzzle is figuring out what easy calculations are needed to solve a tricky problem. As for Languages, I enjoy the idea that there are a multitude of ways to express one idea. My tutoring philosophy is that I want my students to be ready for test day, meaning that my goal is to help a student understand a concept well enough so that they can do problems on their own. The reality is that I will not be sitting next to them when they take their exam. It is my job to ensure that when that day comes, they will be confident in their own skills and academic knowledge. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy filmmaking, watching football, reading and writing.
