Tutoring review by Lindsey in Eads, TN
The student had to make corrections on her chapter test. We went through the problems on the test, correcting or answering them, while also reviewing the procedures for solving them. These problems involved simplifying with exponents and negative exponents, scientific notation, graphing functions, and exponential growth and decay. I talked to her about how this chapter involved a lot of rules for solving, but that if you can remember the rules, the problems are always solvable. I advised her to write down the rule for each lesson as she does her homework each night so that when it comes time for the test, she has a list of all the rules already down and that's what she can study. This will also help a lot when it is exam time.

This session was dedicated to getting the student ready for her trimester final exam. We reviewed a number of topics that needed to be refreshed; various types of factoring, solving polynomial equations, systems of equations using matrices, rational and radical equations, etc. The session went well. Our previous session led to a favorable grade on her last quiz.

We also worked through several word problems involving rates and other functions similar to the problems her teacher gave her to prep for her test. She is getting much more comfortable with some of the problems and is making some progress in getting faster. She's doing really well!

We covered various topics from the student's course in preparation for his final exam. We reviewed factoring, polynomial operations, simplifying exponents and radicals, and literal equations. He was struggling the most with factoring but he made great progress throughout the session. He has extra practice to complete via his teacher and we are planning to meet again tomorrow.

Tutoring review by Robert in Eads, TN
The student and I went over some trigonometry worksheets he had. He is very good and understanding the steps needed to solve the problems. Once I show him what to do, he comprehends my math talk clearly and begins to write and finish the math problems. I was trying to focus the session on the theorems provided by the worksheet. Those theorems were the law of sines and law of cosines. However, he found a different way to solve the problems. After we finished the first worksheet, I helped him set up the problems for the next worksheet which involved word problems. In the end, we got everything accomplished and he had just the right information to complete the rest of his assignments on his own.
