Why choose Varsity Tutors for reading tutoring in Cambridge, Ontario?

When you and your student work with us to find a Cambridge reading coach, one of our educational directors will get to know your student and determine their strengths, weaknesses, and educational goals. Whether your student learns best by playing games with words and letters or prefers to have longer discussions about the author's point of view and how they developed each of their characters, we can help connect you with a reading mentor in Cambridge who meshes well with your student's learning style and can help make their sessions enjoyable.

How much does reading tutoring cost in Cambridge, Ontario?

Your cost for reading tutoring in Cambridge for your student will depend on several factors, such as how often you want to have your student meet with an instructor or what kind of instructor you think is best. For example, if you'd like to have your student work with a Cambridge reading tutor who's a recent graduate of Summit Community College, that can give you a different price than working with a retired teacher from Ryerson Public School.

If you want to schedule regular sessions on a weekly basis, that can give you a different price per session than if you schedule only a few sessions to help your student stay sharp after holiday breaks. Your best bet to get accurate pricing is to contact Varsity Tutors and discuss your needs with one of our educational directors, who can then give you a more complete picture.

Where can I find a tutor for reading in Cambridge, Ontario?

You have plenty of possibilities when searching for a reading mentor in Cambridge for your student. One such possibility is checking the bulletin boards at Conestoga Community College to see if anyone is offering tutoring sessions, but your student's schedule might not be a good fit for when they're free.

You might also ask other parents in Cambridge if they've had success with finding a reading tutor in Cambridge, but their student might be at a different reading level than your student, which might lead to varying levels of success. If you're interested in working with a Cambridge reading tutor who can build an individualized lesson plan for your student, your best bet is to work with Varsity Tutors and contact one of our educational directors.

Whether you're trying to help your student at Hespeler Public School catch up to their classmates or your student wants to prepare for an upcoming advanced reading class at Preston High School, working with a Cambridge reading tutor is a great way to make that a realistic possibility. When you opt for 1-on-1 tutoring, your student will be free to discuss everything from using context clues to determine the meaning of a sentence to breaking down multi-syllable words so they can be more easily understood. Reading Tutoring review by Susan in Cambridge
We continued reading a chapter book using the SQR techniques. The student does well with locating and highlighting responses to the questions. He struggles with fluency and doesn't always attend to punctuation. I read aloud and had him follow along with me - orally and silently. He responded well to the technique.

The student is showing improvement in English speaking. He is becoming more confident and able to ask questions and respond a bit quicker. He shows less hesitation. His reading ability is improving as well, and we are working to build his vocabulary. Because he did not have any assignments to complete, we read a chapter from a book provided from his host mom. I had the student summarize what was going on in the chapter, and in the sections we'd read. There were some vocabulary words that he struggled with, but we were able to define it for him.

Reading Tutoring review by Michelle in Cambridge
Today the student and I discussed his spelling a little, and then we talked about a new general spelling rule: a word with a silent e at the end will keep the e if you add a suffix that starts with a consonant but take away the e if you add a suffix that starts with a vowel. He understood and was somewhat familiar with this rule. Next we read a short story for reading comprehension. He did an excellent job on this one. It was a longer story but he hesitated over very few words and got all of the questions correct without any hesitation. We finished by reading out of the other novel. He had read more than he was assigned, which was great, so we read about 9 pages together and I assigned him the next two days to read in the diary.

We went over the book that the student is going over in social studies. He is showing great improvement, he just needs to keep on defining words he does not know when he comes across them.

Reading Tutoring review by Julie in Cambridge
I started the session by having the student read another book from the series, and then complete the cards associated with that book and the previous two books. I then had her read a book about cats. We talked about vocabulary as she was reading. After that I had her continue to read from Henry and Mudge. Lastly, I had her complete a paragraph using correct grammar, and then reread previous paragraphs.

The student did really well today! We finished up her work for the week, so she is prepared for tomorrow! We started working on her big project, and we have a plan so that we can finish that up in the next couple sessions! She is doing very well, and with some more practice reading, she should be able to do her homework a little easier!
