I am a graduate of Clark Atlanta University. I received a Master of Arts degree in Counselor Education with a focus in Community and Mental Health Counseling. I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University in Middle Grades Education. I am a certified teacher in Language Arts, as well as Reading. I taught 6th and 7th graders English Language Arts over the course of three years.My specialty is writing; I am currently composing three books. I pride myself in finding relatable and engaging techniques to meet the needs of any age group. As a teacher, I collaborated with my resistant and challenged writers to make writing enjoyable and not unbearable. I am always overjoyed when my students that would only write a few sentences in the beginning of the school year can produce five-paragraph essays towards the middle of the school term. In between summers, I have tutored students on ACT and SAT preparation with emphasis on the Reading and Writing components. Nervous and anxious test takers leave my tutoring sessions feeling like victors! I am excited to working with your child in preparing them for either academic or test prep victories.

I also graduated from The National Shakespeare Conservatory's two-year actor training program, and studied acting at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and completed the Screenwriting program at New York University. Originally from the Cleveland area, I have been in New York for more than 20 years, working extensively in the entertainment and legal industries. I teach acting, voice, and movement to teens and adults, having worked at CUNY's York College in Queens, Manhattan's Breakthrough Studios, as well as private instruction. I did employee training and evaluation in the legal industry for 15 years, and currently provide contract services to companies upgrading their computer systems. While I tutor a broad rangeof subjects, I am most passionate about acting and writing. People are more creative and expressive than they give themselves credit for, and I love helping a student of any age discover that they do, in fact, have what it takes for acting, public speaking, writing, or any other form of creative expression. My approach starts with what the student already knows, and then pushes her or him outside of the comfort zone to discover previously unrealized creativity. This approach works well in other subject areas also, helping students to think outside the box and use creative problem solving abilities for subjects not traditionally thought of as "creative." In my spare time I enjoy writing screenplays, playing my ukulele (I have two of them!) and performing with my friends at karaoke.

I graduated from MIT in 2014 with a BS in Economics and minors in Biology and Public Policy. Currently, I work as a research associate at a development economics lab at MIT, and plan to apply for medical school this upcoming summer. I hope to combine in MD with a PhD in Economics or Health Policy in order to work on issues regarding Healthcare Delivery.Throughout college, I had extensive experience tutoring. I tutored writing/essay editing and SAT prep for a year, as well as high school math for a semester. Furthermore, I participated in a week-long Spring Break tutoring program in New Orleans, where I tutored 3rd and 4th grade students in math. Lastly, I spent a month teaching computer literacy to health workers in rural Togo in the summer of 2013.I find tutoring to be an extremely rewarding experience. I really enjoy teaching and like the challenge of trying to figure out the teaching style that best fits my students!
