My tutoring career began at the age of 23, when I was employed as a student worker in the Mathematics lab at the University of Texas at Tyler. While there, I had the opportunity to help students with a variety of backgrounds and skill levels with various mathematical subjects, from basic algebra to multiariate calculus and everything in between.Since then, I have been working on the side as a math tutor. It is something I have always enjoyed. My students tell me that I have a terrific knack for taking complicated concepts and making them appear simple.

I am a recent graduate from CSU Long Beach where I obtained my Master's degree in physics. Before my time in Long Beach, I was a student at UC Davis, where I obtained my BS in physics. I am currently looking to pursue my Ph.D. in physics once accepted to a university. Since my graduation in December, 2013 I have been in the teaching work force. I am currently teaching part-time at both Santa Ana College and Cypress college, where I am an instructor pf physics and astronomy. I also am teaching at local academies as an AP physics instructor for the summer. In addition to this experience, I was teaching for three years during my graduate program teaching lab courses in physics cover topics such as mechanics, electronics, magnetism, and Optics. I enjoying teaching these topics very much, and I love to hear students becoming more fluent in the language and application of the topics. It is truly the greatest reward as an instructor. My teaching style focus around a bottom-up approach. Since I am convinced memorization in physics/astronomy is not useful, I stress learning the most basic form of problems and modifying them based on the question being asked. It may be more difficult for some students, but I believe it leads to a mastery and will make students much more versatile to different questions/topics. When I am not tutoring, I am usually acting in a show or auditioning for film/commercials. I love to hike, run, and play video games in my downtime. I like to think of myself as a highly functioning, active nerd. I look forward to meeting any prospective students interested in learning these amazing topics in the world of physics and astronomy.

I am a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on British and American literature and also minored in Psychology. After working for few years after college, I returned to school at Columbia University where I studied Chemistry, Biology, and Physics on my way to completing a certificate program in premedical studies. Since then, I have worked in several healthcare offices, and I am currently preparing to return to school to complete a nursing program. I have previously tutored students in Chemistry, Biology, and English for the Peter Westbrook Foundation, a non-profit that teaches middle- and high-school students the sport of fencing and offers free academic tutoring to its students. I am also currently a Sunday school teacher at my church in Brooklyn. I tutor in Chemistry, Biology, and English. I have a great enthusiasm for each of the subjects I teach, and I try to pass that enthusiasm on to my students. Some of my other interests include soccer (both playing and watching), biking, and hiking.

AP Biology Tutor • +23 Subjects

I received my education at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. I majored in History and Spanish language and attained a B.A. in both of these subjects, graduating cum laude in 2012. I have since gone abroad to teach English in Madrid, Spain, and returned to get my Master of Library and Information Science at Rutgers University with an expected completion date of May 2015. I have tutored on and off since high school, mainly in Geometry, Chemistry, and History. When I went abroad, I not only taught English in school, but tutored it on the side as well, mainly to students who were having trouble and who were looking to get ahead. I am totally devoted to the student, not willing to give up when things become difficult to understand or explain. I believe I am good at making students really care about the subjects that they are learning, not just learn it for the sake of the test or their teachers. I tutor many subjects, but would have to say that my greatest passions lie in Spanish, History, and Chemistry. I would say that my greatest strengths as a tutor lie in my ability to give perspective on a subject and in my ability to learn as I teach. In addition to tutoring, I greatly enjoy tennis and reading, and I am an avid movie buff.

Frequently Asked Questions

MBA builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills that apply across academics and careers. A strong foundation in MBA opens doors to advanced coursework and prepares students for standardized tests.

Many students find that success in MBA boosts their confidence in related subjects too.

Common challenges include gaps from earlier material, difficulty with specific concepts, and trouble applying what's learned to new problems. These issues compound quickly in MBA because topics build on each other.

A tutor identifies exactly where you're stuck, fills in gaps, and gives you targeted practice until the concepts click. That 1-on-1 attention makes a big difference.

Look for someone with strong MBA knowledge who can explain concepts in multiple ways until you understand. Patience and the ability to adapt to your learning style matter as much as expertise.

Varsity Tutors vets all tutors through background checks, credential review, and teaching evaluation—so you can focus on finding the right personality and teaching approach fit.

For students who are struggling, stuck, or want to excel, tutoring often pays off in better grades, stronger test scores, and reduced stress. The 1-on-1 format lets you move at your own pace and focus on what you actually need.

Many students also develop better study habits that serve them in other subjects.

Most students benefit from 1-2 sessions per week. If you're significantly behind or have a major exam coming up, more frequent sessions can help you catch up faster.

Your tutor can recommend a schedule based on your goals and timeline.

Yes—both are core parts of tutoring. Tutors help you work through challenging homework problems while teaching the underlying concepts, so you're not just getting answers but actually learning.

For exams, tutors provide targeted review, practice problems, and test-taking strategies specific to MBA.

Tutoring is typically purchased in hour packages, with rates varying by tutor experience and subject complexity. Varsity Tutors offers several package options.

You can discuss pricing during your consultation to find an option that fits your budget and goals.

Your tutor will assess where you are, discuss your goals, and start working on areas where you need the most help. Many students bring current homework or upcoming test material to focus on.

By the end of the session, you'll have a plan for moving forward and a sense of how your tutor approaches teaching MBA.
