I am an experienced classroom teacher and tutor who loves helping my students discover the answers to the simple and complex problems most relevant to their lives. I have taught in three countries and have a passion for both language and the power of an excellent STEM education. Whether it's acing the SAT or GRE or brushing up on Algebra before school starts, I'm here to help my students get there.

I’m a proud alumna of Macalester College where I graduated with a degree in English and a prospective student of Princeton Theological Seminary where I hope to pursue graduate degrees in Divinity and Youth Ministry. I have extensive experience tutoring and teaching English in a variety of settings: college classrooms, private homes, churches, SAT schools, and even abroad in places like Cuba and China. I am most comfortable teaching the SAT Reading/Writing and helping youths with their personal statements. Furthermore, my one-year experience as an AmeriCorps VISTA for PeaceJam Foundation – an award-winning organization that promotes service learning and peacekeeping through the combined efforts of Nobel Peace Laureates and young people – has instilled in me a deep reverence and hope for our youths today. I strongly believe in our youths’ limitless potential to pursue their dreams and become agents of positive social change and know I will be an excellent mentor/coach through their journey.

I'm a Northeastern Graduate with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in math. I'm particularly passionate about 3D-Printing, aerospace, and mechanical design. I'm a highly motivated team player, and I strive to find challenging work that allows me to use all facets of my skillset.I love Math! It has always been my favorite subject, and I enjoy both learning about new concepts and sharing/teaching the ones I'm familiar with. I have a BA in English and Psychology from Columbia University and will soon be pursuing an MFA at Johns Hopkins.I enjoy adjusting my teaching style for each students' individual needs. I have worked with students struggling with basic phonics to total literary whizzes who needed more fine-grained advice.I have tutored students from all levels, from middle school to college. I am especially excited to help students with reading comprehension, essay editing, and argument building. In general, my subjects include: English grammar, literature, creative writing, psychology, and social sciences. I also performed exceptionally on standardized tests and can help students preparing for AP tests, SAT or ACT exams.

Growing up in one-stoplight town, I spent a lot of time reading. This blossomed into a fascination with history which has led me to travel around the US and Europe. My love of helping people learn began early as well, with teaching swim lessons in the local pool. I attended college at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. Surprising, I majored in history and not vampire studies. I worked at a software company, where one of my duties was to train new employees, before moving to England to pursue a Masters Degree in Modern History Durham University. When not in the classroom, I love hiking, swimming, reading, and playing video games.From my pre-school to my Master's degree, I've found tutors and teachers who helped shape a love of learning in me. Drawing on my own experience, I believe making connections between subjects and personal interests is key to instilling excitement in any topic. Helping students form these connections develops a desire to learn which often lasts beyond succeeding in a single class.I am happy to assist with a wide variety of subjects from ACT prep to general homework assistance for any age student. My experiences with children outside the classroom as a swim coach and assistant scoutmaster has reinforced my belief that teaching requires positivity, patience, and enthusiasm to achieve success.Successful learning in a tutoring session needs a good tutor-student relationship, and forming this bond is also a vital part of the teaching process. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. I tutored large groups while in medical school in pathology, biochemistry, histology, microbiology, and pharmacology. I have also spent time in small groups and one on one tutoring sessions for a variety of subjects in science. I am available to tutor biology, chemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and anatomy and physiology. My favorite subjects to tutor are biology and microbiology because of the understanding required at a cellular level. I believe all students have the ability to excel and reach their individual goals in any subject and my philosophy lies in creating a context for understanding for the student. Science is fun and changing the framework in how a student looks at science can make all the difference.

Not just with their homework, or carrying their groceries, or making a phone call, but helping to boost their sense of self worth by being a cheerleader; not through false flattery or adulation, but in convincing them that through hard work, focus and determination, they can conquer whatever difficulties hold them back at improving their skills in whatever they set out to do. I also enjoy connecting with people one one one, learning who they are, where they came from, discovering what makes them tick. This helps me in my teaching process - there is not one mold of teaching that fits everyone...it's important to be flexible in your teaching style without losing the underlying pedagogy of the subject matter. I have a great ear for languages and know four fluently, with another two at a basic level. Once you know one language, it's easier to learn another, once you start understanding the underlying rules of grammar that link all languages. I've also traveled a lot, and have lived for chunks of time in most of the countries whose language I speak. Language is not only a form of communication, it's about culture. That understanding of culture I could bring to the student I'm tutoring, to give them more depth of knowledge of the language. I've also been trained in the idiomatic pronunciation (diction) of these languages (I'm an opera singer) so I would be able to help the student pronounce the words with a more native-sounding accent. Finally, I've been teaching voice for many years and have worked with many types of students over that time, from all ages and backgrounds. This has given me a lot of experience that would transfer well to my tutoring. I look forward to working with Varsity pupils!

I can't picture my present or future without education in it. I began tutoring for my little sister when both of us were in high school, helping her with math, English, science, and Spanish. In college, I started branching out to tutor friends. In 2019 I began volunteer tutoring for my college's chemistry department, and soon after, I took on a job at a local tutoring center teaching biology and chemistry (and occasionally physics and math) to high school students. Since taking the MCAT and scoring 99th percentile, I started tutoring for that as well. Biology and chemistry are my main teaching areas: chemistry because I've had the most tutoring experience in it, and biology because I have practical experience through lab research and patient care. I can also teach math or physics (I used to be an engineering student so I know those subjects well). I pride myself on bringing a real passion for the subjects I teach. I also strive to abolish simple; disjointed memorization and help my students see their subject matter through a logical, problem-solving oriented lens. I look forward to learning with you!
