Session Summaries by LSAT Tutors

Bellevue, WA LSAT tutoring
This session, the student and I took a break from logic games, and started to work on the logical reasoning section. He had never even seen a logical reasoning question before, so it was all brand new to him. We began by going over the basics of the section itself, and of arguments - premise, conclusion, assumption and inference. We spent most of our time today, focusing on assumptions and assumption type questions. Since many other types of questions use assumption as their base, I figured this would be a good place to start for him. Next time we will continue to work on logical reasoning questions, with a couple games interspersed, just to keep up those skills as well.

Reviewed answers from Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension, as well as some Analytical Reasoning questions from Practice Test One in the Book. Mostly the student's problems with the LR and RC problems are simply reading them too quickly and guessing too quickly (she misses important words sometimes). We also did some Analytical Reasoning, where she is showing improvement. Our next session will be focused entirely on Analytical Reasoning. The student has a very positive attitude and will do well on the LSAT, in my estimation.

Today I got a better sense of what the student wants to work on and what prep she has done in the past. We began with the logic games section. I recommended purchasing the LSAT Logic Games Bible and reading through the first section before our meeting on Friday. I gave her a brief overview of the types of games and rules as well as some strategies for turning those rules into diagrams that are quicker to use. We are going to continue working through the Logic Games section as that is where she needs the most work, but if we have time for Logical Reasoning, we will also review that as well.

To tonight's session, the student brought a selection of Logical Reasoning questions from her past practice exam that were still giving her trouble. We found a few recurring problems, and further refined her approach on a couple of different question types. This coming week she's going to do a full practice exam.
