I am a lifelong learner of the Chinese language. I am passionate about this language, and I hope to pass my passion on to my students. I have various experiences that make me an excellent tutor. As a high school student at Riverdale Country School, I studied abroad in Beijing during my junior year through School Year Abroad (SYA). During my junior year of college, I studied in Shanghai through NYU Shanghai. I have also participated in the Middlebury College Chinese School twice at the highest level where I could only communicate in Chinese for eight weeks.I have Chinese tutoring experiences through another organization similar to Varsity Tutors as well as by meeting with students with whom I have personal connections. I have achieved near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese, and have taught my tutees various skills that I have learned to learn the language effectively.Currently, I am studying to receive an English-teaching certificate at Columbia University while teaching English to Chinese immigrants in Chinatown using my Mandarin skills. Previously, I have held numerous positions in which I have used my Mandarin skills, including as a case manager at a community health center that serves Chinese immigrants in Flushing, Queens.Learning Chinese can seem extremely difficult and almost impossible at some times. As a learner of the language for 12 years, I know exactly how to overcome these obstacles which I will be able to teach you.

I just recently graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics with a minor in STEM education through the UTeach Program at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. I received an initial teaching license in mathematics (grades 8 -12) and SEI endorsement. I have found my true passion through teaching. I am committed to cultivating my students’ interests in the mathematics that surrounds them and motivating students to achieve their academic goals.The UTeach program has provided me with many opportunities throughout my undergraduate degree to practice my skills in elementary, middle, and high school classrooms. With all of the experience I have gained, I know I am ready to tutor your student to help students achieve their true mathematical potential.While children are inquisitive by nature, teachers must continuously work to foster their students’ curiosity and spirit of exploration. During my teaching practicum, I have tried to create a learning environment that not only stimulates students’ thinking but also allows for creativity. I'm a biology student at Stony Brook University and a past researcher in neuroscience and x-ray protein crystallography. My background has been heavy handed with Biology and Chemistry courses and has drawn on a thorough and frequent use of algebra as a basis for most of my work. I grew up in Queens, NY and attended a small private school for most of my education prior to university. Having been a student in a small high school and a student in a huge university, I most definitely have an appreciation for personalized attention when endeavoring to learn any subject.

I've expanded my knowledge through extensive reading...I also have the IB scores to exemplify that I can tailor a tutoring session to help you analyze text and write essays like a pro.

I am a fourth year undergraduate student at The University of Texas at Austin pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering Honors with minors in Computer Science and Business. I have always been passionate about helping others by continuing the chain of mentorship that I received and helping others avoid the same mistakes I once made. Prior to University, I spent my spare time spreading environmental awareness to elementary students, coaching middle school basketball teams, and guiding nascent MathCounts and Science Olympiad programs. Since arriving at UT Austin, I have had the privilege of teaching a classroom of middle schoolers for a semester as part of the UTeach Outreach program. I am most passionate about Math, Computer Science, and the college application process. In my experience helping struggling students prepare their applications for admissions, I have had the most fun reviewing essays and revising resumes. I also enjoy sharing tips and tricks to solving any Standardized Math Test questions! I truly believe education is the key to a better future, and it cannot be taken for granted because of the unequal opportunities that others face. Outside of academia, I enjoy working out, hiking, playing sports with my friends, and showing people new songs!

I have excelled with 95%+ in all of my high school regents examinations. As a high school student I fell in love with Math & Science and frequently tutored my colleagues who were struggling with their classes. In my senior year of high school I achieved the NY1 Scholar Athlete scholarship and was placed on the NYC Chancellor's Honor Roll. I then went on to Stony Brook University where I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Biology. At Stony Brook, I was on the Dean's List every semester and a Golden Key Honor Society Member. After completing my undergraduate science classes, I became a Teaching Assistant for Biology and Chemistry. As a teaching assistant, I met with students on a one to one basis during office hours and helped strengthen their problem areas.After undergrad, I went to medical school and graduated with honors. During medical school I tutored and prepared students for the United States Medical License examinations. I prepared and delivered daily lectures for the internal medicine students and increased the pass rate from 65% to 90%. I completed my medical clerkships and attained my M.D. December 2014.I am committed, devoted and conscientious to everything I set my mind on and my decision to tutor reflects my lifelong desire for personal growth and education. When tutoring, I believe that 'diagnosing' a student's weakness is essential to building a strong foundation. It is my motto to work hard and give nothing less than my very best. It brings joy to me and the thrill of seeing a student improve with my help drives my compassion and love for teaching. I am well-read and am excellent with spelling, grammar, writing, and literary comprehension and analysis. I love learning and want to inspire this love in others!
