I come from northern China so I speak standard Mandarin. I have a Bachelor degree from Peking University, Beijing, and a MBA from the University of New Mexico. With my in-depth understanding of the culture and language of both countries, I will be a more effective tutor for you. I have passion for languages learning, not only through many years of my own experience, but also through tutoring others. Before coming to the US, I managed an ELS school and also taught English there. During my 20 years in the US, besides working full-time as an biomedical researcher, I have tutored English and Chinese to my family, friends and new immigrants. I believe that a language is inseparable from its culture and an increased understanding of a culture can greatly enhance the enjoyment of learning the language. As your tutor, I will understand your needs and work together with you to achieve your goals.

I am currently a branch librarian just outside of Minneapolis/St. Paul. I received my Masters in Library and Information Science, with a youth services focus, from Simmons College in Boston, MA. I earned my Bachelor of Arts, a dual degree in Writing Intensive English and Journalism, with a Minor in History, from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Since completing my education I’ve worked in a wide variety of academic settings from an inner city middle school in Cambridge, MA to an elite private preschool-12th grade school in Baton Rouge, LA, to a charter school focused on Hmong culture and heritage in St. Paul. My role in the Charter School in St. Paul was that of reading tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps, because of this and my literature background, I am most comfortable with reading and writing instruction. I also worked on reading and writing while volunteering at 826 Boston. In addition to reading and writing instruction for students of all ages, I have experience tutoring and teaching all subjects studied in early elementary school. I gained this experience from tutoring students at 826 Boston and subbing consistently at the school in Louisiana. I believe that tutoring sessions should be educational and skills increased, but it should also be fun, and if a student’s confidence in a subject area increases, then I feel I am succeeding. Once confident in their ability to achieve their goals, I find students are more likely to put forth the effort and eventually achieve their goal. In addition to teaching and tutoring, I like running, yoga, reading, scrapbooking, and generally staying fit in mind and body.

As a dedicated public high school chemistry teacher, I bring years of hands-on experience helping students master challenging concepts and build confidence in science. I work daily with students of all levels, so I'm deeply familiar with the current high school chemistry curriculum, including Honors and AP content. My goal is to make chemistry meaningful and approachable by connecting it to real-world applications from the food we eat to the technology we use every day.Students describe my teaching style as patient, clear, and encouraging. I believe that every learner can succeed with the right strategies and support. Whether a student needs help preparing for an exam, strengthening foundational skills, or reigniting their excitement for science, I create personalized lessons that meet their needs.I love teaching because it allows me to share my enthusiasm for chemistry and inspire curiosity about the world around us. Hi, my name is Ben. I am a graduate from the University of Bridgeport, a student of International Relations and World Languages. My speciality is History, Political Science, Economics, as well as writing. I'm extremely comfortable with any of the AP tests in these subjects, and also very comfortable helping improve scores on the writing and reading sections of the SAT or GRE.I can get your papers up to A+ strength, whether you need someone to help develop strong original ideas, or to simply help you go over your grammar and formatting.I am also a well qualified ESL tutor for any non-native speakers looking for an edge. I specialize in helping non-native speakers correct their college papers, but would be happy to tutor other non-native speakers for any reason.I'm a new New Haven resident. My favorite foods are New Haven Pizza, Broccoli, and Coffee (not all together typically), and my hobbies include running Dungeons and Dragons, archery, reading non-fiction, and watching old movies. If you become my client, expect a wry sense of humor, a laid back but professional attitude, and plenty of patience to go over anything. Look forward to working with you!

"Different is not a Disability" -- This has become my life motto. As a young child I was often sent to tutors because it seemed I could not learn during class time. My lack of learning was not due to lack of intelligence, but simply not understanding.I learn differently than most students, which is why I decided to tutor. I want to help others who are in my situation: students who are made to feel that because they learn differently they have a problem. As a teacher, I believe it is important to make sure students feel confident when doing their work.It is now my job in the role as teacher to make sure no child feels what I felt... alone. For me, becoming a tutor is much more than just a job. It is my mission to make sure at the end of each session my students feel they can do it. I want my students to understand being different and learning differently are not wrong. It's an honor, not a disability.

My passion for teaching others and sharing knowledge emanates from my curiosity and love for learning. My shadowing experiences in particular have stimulated my curiosity and desire to learn more about the world around me. How do computers work? How do mechanical products work? My desire to study Engineering stems from the practical application of math and Physics to real-world situations to enhance and improve them is a field that I find fascinating and perplexing. After partaking in different engineering-based experiences, I learned how varied and inclusive this subject is. I find math, chemistry, and computer science to be my expertise. I really enjoy teaching them because I find it surprising how much they relate.

My mission is to provide every student with a fun and educational experience that inspires a love for learning. I understand that school and life can be overwhelming, and that many people look at school as just a way to get a better job. However, as cheesy as it may sound, you never stop learning.I have experienced success and failure in the classroom throughout my academic career. I quit college for several years, unsure if I was ever going back, until I met someone (outside of college) who became a mentor and friend to me. He helped me realize my professional and educational goals. He even challenged me daily to make sure that I was retaining the information that we would talk about. I began succeeding in school and life. That event inspired me to teach others what I was fortunate enough to have in front of me.
