Algebra Tutoring review by Wan Wen (Jovana) in Northlake, IL
I assisted the student with her homework that dealt with complex number algebra. The student seemed to have difficulties with simplification of algebraic expression involving negative exponents. So, I explained the concepts/formulas to her, but she still needs to work on those kind of problems on her own.

We went over the new topics that the student is learning at school. The focus was on recursive functions, and after the session, he seemed a lot more comfortable with the problems.

Algebra Tutoring review by Yongqing in Northlake, IL
The student did not have new material from school, so we continued our review on his algebra knowledge. Again, I tried to have him practice as much as possible with fractions, this time with fractions as coefficients for squared variables in an equation. He finally seems to understand the process and could solve another problem of the same type with minor mistakes. I shall come next time and quiz him on this. In the mean time, he should review the notes and try to understand it.

Algebra Tutoring review by June in Northlake, IL
We started and dove pretty deep into the laws of exponents in algebra. The student had a natural curiosity in exploring these laws, so we went so far as using variables in place of the powers and how these laws affected these sorts of problems. By the end of the session, she seemed very comfortable with them. I think she just needs to remember and practice the laws a little more to master them.

Algebra Tutoring review by Danielle in Northlake, IL
The student had already completed his math homework covering Pythagorean theorem, so we spent the first twenty minutes reviewing the worksheet and correcting any mistakes. Then we worked on a small kinetic and potential energy project that involved using the formulas and graphing our results. We discussed real world examples of both kinetic and potential energy and we also looked closely at the formulas to ensure that he understood what each type of energy required. We finished our session by once again reviewing Pythagorean theorem and we plan to continue that work during our next session.

Algebra Tutoring review by Laura in Northlake, IL
Today the student and I began reviewing for her midterm that she will take next Wednesday and Friday. We worked through the review guide and she was very comfortable with the some of the more basic concepts such as adding and subtracting integers and solving for a variable, which I think boosted her confidence. We talked through a few examples on exponents of negative numbers and used her teacher's mnemonic devices to help remember the associative and commutative properties. The most important thing we reviewed and what I think helped her the most, was reviewing fractions with variables in them. Overall, I believe she is well prepared for the basics of this test. We have not yet reviewed some of the more difficult chapters but I will ask if she would like to start there our next session.
