When we are struggling, we often blame ourselves or our own insufficiencies. However, I strongly believe that no student is "slow" ill suited to the subject; rather, students who are struggling need a little support and an adult who is eager to invest time and energy into their success. In a tutoring session with me, you should expect to engage in the content you're learning in ways that best suit your needs and interests so that you can be successful and confident in class.I currently live in Dayton, Ohio but I've lived all over the country. I graduated with a dual major from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, where I was an active part of the honors college and graduated summa cum laude. I coached and tutored though high school and college, where I realized my passion for meeting students where they were and helping them succeed in their next steps. I taught several different courses of high school science for several years and loved it. My favorite part of teaching was building relationships and supporting students, which is why I am tutoring!I am most excited to tutor middle and high school science students, but I tutor many subjects for students of all ages. I enjoy the tutoring experience because of the one-on-one interaction allows students to get more individualized support that is rooted in their own needs and interests.

I am a graduate of the University of Central Florida. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and my Master of Education in Elementary Education. In addition to completing a graduate degree this year, I served as an Elementary Teacher for Orange County Public Schools for 2.5 years, where I taught Kindergarten and Second Grade. I created lessons that engaged all learners by applying a variety of teaching methods and utilizing SMARTboard technology. I formed cooperative learning groups, organized individualized projects, created learning centers and implemented interventions. Alternative assessment methods, such as portfolios, rubrics and performance assessments, in combination with traditional tests, enabled me to evaluate the students individually and comprehensively. I communicated with parents and attended all parent/teacher conferences and professional development workshops that were held. Furthermore, I have been a substitute teacher for Orange County Public Schools, a German language teacher and dance instructor for Elementary school children. I have a passion to teach and love to work with children in creative ways. Being fluent in three languages, English, German and Russian, as well as have lived in four countries revealed my love for diversity. I am passionate about teaching children and forge relationships with them that help build a sense of confidence and enable them to grow as learners. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, Pilates, Zumba and Volleyball.

I believe every student is a good student. Every child has the potential to make high marks. The secret is knowing how to engage the student and stimulate the student into continuing the learning on their own. I am well versed in many education techniques and tools. My past students have gone on to be successful in college and their new careers.

I consider myself fortunate: I do what I love. Having earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, I set out to develop a career in HVAC design and gather professional contacts that would allow me to work my own hours, for myself. Mission accomplished. Now that I have that established, I have the time and the energy to assist others in developing the skills to master mathematics. This is the first building block in a career in the sciences or technology. At the age of 14, I was introduced to Algebra in middle school. This was not an introduction that gave me "warm fuzzies";. In fact, it haunted me on a daily basis. As I struggled to survive the first term, I sought out the help of a high school math teacher and this was the beginning of my passion for math. Her confidence and enthusiasm for mathematics spilled over on me in all of my years to follow in high school as well as college. There are very few things in life that parallel Algebra, which is why many adults still hold strong feelings, good and bad, decades after having taken it in school. Algebra allows students to think in logical ways that they have never before encountered; it stretches the human mind much as a runner would stretch his legs before attempting to run long distances. If you have not stretched, running is awkward and somewhat painful. The same can be said of Algebra.I believe in non-judgmental, consistent instruction paired with the student's repetitive practice and personal discipline. These skills are paramount in developing a strong foundation in math and in life. As I tutored students in College and continued to tutor adults while developing my career, I have been exposed to many learning styles and have an appreciation for the uniqueness of the student and his/her ability to comprehend concepts in a way that compliments his/her personality. I also received training for the latest developments in teaching methods for middle/high school students in 2010, thereby increasing my tutoring effectiveness.I look forward to talking with you about your needs for instructional math tutoring. As it is your choice in how you support your child in their education, I applaud you in seeking assistance and hope that I may also be of support to you and your child in achieving success.

I am a graduate of Boston University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Communication with a focus on Public Relations and Advertising. After graduation, I worked for a few years producing the advertising for Broadway shows, before switching to a higher education role as an Academic Advisor at Columbia University. In this role, I counsel and advise both prospective and current students who are part of our Master's Program in Sports Management. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I always had passion for both English and Mathematics. I understand my work through systems, and tutor students to create the systems that work best for their own personal growth. Students learn to master their own work, and can continue to grow independently outside of the tutor sessions. In my spare time, I am a fan of Musical Theater - both as an audience member and occasional actor. I also run competitively and am currently training for the 2017 NYC Marathon.

I received my PhD in mathematics from Drexel University in 2019. I really enjoyed teaching as a graduate student, and working as a tutor here seems like a nice way to get back into it.Before graduate school, I went to Johns Hopkins. I started out as a "chemical and biomolecular engineering" major, but then ended up switching to a double major in math and electrical engineering. I graduated with a BA in math and MS in electrical engineering. From there, I went to Drexel University to write and defend my dissertation in mathematics, which was about two unsolved problems in linear algebra. While in Johns Hopkins and Drexel University, I ended up teaching a lot of math and a bit of science not only as a tutor, but also as a teaching assistant and as a primary instructor. Since then, I've been working as a mathematician; I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Free University of Brussels for one year, and then as a research scientist at the Air Force Research Lab in Dayton, Ohio for two years. It's been a rewarding career, but I have missed teaching. When it comes to teaching, I try my best to take a flexible approach and meet students where they are. I am a big believer in the power of intuition and curiosity, so I try to teach in a way that nurtures both. I find that it is important not only to know how to get from problem statement to solution, but also to have some understanding of why the pieces fit together the way they do.Besides math and teaching, I enjoy singing, playing piano, playing online chess, and doing the New York Times crossword (and other word games). Lately, I've been trying to get back into running and yoga.
