Tutoring review by Matthew in Powder Springs, GA
We discussed problems involving applications of the derivative today, specifically applications of optimization. We worked several problems varying in difficulty, including a long one involving the trig functions. Although he started out a bit confused, the student has a much better idea of how to solve these problems, from the initial set up, to the calculus and algebra involved.

Tutoring review by Ron Ron in Powder Springs, GA
At the beginning of the session, we reviewed problems from last time involving simplifying square roots. I took a look at the problems that the student had come up with and talked her through what was correct and what needed a little more work. In doing so, we briefly reviewed the difference between rational and irrational numbers. We continued to cover algebra concepts. We discussed the Least Common Multiples (LCM) and Greatest Common Factors (GCF). I also highlighted the similarities between LCM and least common denominator. We talked about what each of these terms meant and what it meant to find these terms for a set of two numbers. We worked through an example problem for each concept, LCM and GCF. We discussed starting points and strategies for recognizing what was not LCM/GCF and also how to find these results. In doing so, we reviewed the difference between multiples and factors, and we also had the opportunity to review how to multiply and divide variables with exponents. I left her with a sample problem to construct LCM and GCF questions from as well as another sample problem to practice dividing variables with exponents.

Tutoring review by Abigail in Powder Springs, GA
In our second session, I tried to get a better sense of the student's particular strengths and weaknesses as a Latin student, so that I could tailor my tutoring style to his particular needs. He has an admirably strong grasp of the Latin paradigms, but is still having trouble putting all the pieces together and connecting a word's form to its semantic and syntactic role. We began our session this week with some review of noun case and usage, with an emphasis on how to connect the Latin forms with their meaning and usage. For practice, we worked through some modified composition exercises. Then we moved on to some translation practice, in preparation for his translation quiz on Friday. I tried to emphasize the importance of breaking down a Latin sentence into its component parts in order to translate it. I also showed him some tricks for keeping track of all the parts of the sentence that I picked up when I was a high school student.
