I was born in Des Moines, Iowa & currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm Swiss-American and have a passion for education, STEM, and fostering community. I have strengths in coding/data science, environmental science, statistics, and language (English, writing, etc.). I've enjoyed many roles throughout my budding career and time as a student. My experiences have revealed the following about myself: I cherish meaningful interpersonal bonds, I value the right to a healthy environment, I'm curious at heart (and an extrovert), and I empower and connect with youth around me & globally. I was a peer tutor in Chemistry and English as a high schooler. Here are some other tidbits about my life, which I feel make me a strong educator: I created lesson plans and activities for children ages 3-14, campers, and guests and conducted outreach programs at local Iowa schools/after-school programs (AmeriCorps Summer Ladders, Science Center of Iowa). I've worked with youth in Dubai, UAE to learn about their role in addressing the climate crisis at UNFCC's Conference of Parties (Emory University Observer, United Nations COP28). I spent multiple years as a policy debate educator and adjudicator to improve high schoolers' advocacy, argumentation, and public speaking skills on topics of Criminal Justice Reform, Water Resources, & Economic Inequality (Policy Debate Judge, Dowling Catholic High School; Mamaroneck High School). Lastly, I love learning new things that don't come naturally to me, which makes me a unique leader. I was elected as Co-President of Emory American Sign Language Organization for 3 consecutive years. I led Executive team meetings, planned weekly Sign-n'-Chats, and facilitated lessons for General Body Meetings. I grew our club from ~5 regular members to more than 30 (Emory University, EASLO). I secured the first ever funding for the club during my time as a student.

I am from New Haven, CT and graduated from Hamden Hall Country Day School last year. I am now a freshman at Emory University where I am double majoring in Psychology and Economics. If you're anything like me, you might also be a terrible test taker. I get so nervous when I sit down for standardized tests that I can barely think of the answer. Tests are not my strong suit, but I believe that works to my advantage as a tutor. When I began studying for the ACT and taking practice tests, I was having difficulty improving my original score. I spent months working with a tutor and skipped countless baseball practices just to go home and aimlessly review old material. I consistently scored in the low 30s, so when the real test came around, I was pretty confident. Let's just say it didn't go as planned. I generally scored high on the English and Math, but always had trouble with the Reading and Science sections. The questions I got wrong in those sections were quite similar, yet I would get the same type of questions wrong on each subsequent test. Once I figured out my own strategies to approaching specific questions and improving my time management skills, I grew comfortable sitting in those desks for three hours. I finally began hitting that 99th percentile mark. The most invaluable part I believe to the college application is the essay portion. I can teach you guys some of the ways I approach the Supplements and Personal Statement to creatively show your voice. I think about it as a party: if you're at a party with one hundred people and someone can identify you based on something you wrote in your essay, then it is most likely a strong essay. One of Emory's essay prompts asked students to write about their favorite fiction or nonfiction work, and I submitted a piece about Two, and a Half Men that I'd never thought would be included in my college application. I later met the admissions officer who read my application and she recognized my name because of that essay.I tutored seven students for the ACT during the summer before my freshman year. I can also help with Math, Econ, English, and editing papers. Feel free to reach out!
Hi! My name is Philip and I live in Marietta. I received my bachelor's degree in Psychology from Emory University last year and am starting medical school at Wake Forest in a few months. I have a pretty strong background in Math and Sciences and teaching is one of my strongest passions besides medicine. Feel free to call/email me to ask any questions and I hope to meet you in person soon!
I am a tutor because of all of the great tutors that influenced me throughout my academic career. I was always a good student, but I believe that the tutors that have been in my life helped me to become an outstanding student and tutor. With their help, I was able to finish high school at the top of my class and go on to receive my Bachelor of Arts in English from Emory University. I am currently studying at Morehouse School of Medicine located in Atlanta, GA.My tutoring experience began in high school where I tutored students and my peers in all subjects ranging from phonics to calculus. Throughout college, I continued to tutor students from elementary school all the way up to those in college. After graduating college, I worked with a professional tutoring company for two years where I learned a variety of different tutoring techniques to apply to different learning styles. I have experience tutoring a variety of different subjects such as biology, chemistry, English (both language and literature), and multiple levels of math (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus). My ultimate goal as a tutor is to have students truly understand a concept and then to move ahead.I have embraced the idea that learning is a different experience for everyone. For some, it takes no time at all, while for others it is an extremely difficult task. All in all learning takes effort. With this idea in mind, my tutoring methods are extremely flexible to meet the need of every student that I come into contact with. At the end of the day, the student should feel a sense of understanding that they did not have before. I strongly believe that learning should be a fun experience so that what you learn sticks with you.Aside from being a tutor, I am a huge sports fanatic, especially football (both college and professional)—Go DAWGS & Go FALCONS! I also have a passion for cars. I am an amateur figure skater and love to read & shop during my free time. The thing that I value the most is my family. I believe in going after your dreams and doing all that you can to achieve your goals; and I truly believe that education is one of the most valuable tools you can have.
I am a recent graduate of Emory University, where I studied Mathematics and Philosophy. I think every student learns differently, and the most important job of a tutor is to tailor his or her style of teaching to each student's unique way of thinking.
I am a second year student at Emory University working towards a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics. I tutor in all levels of physics and math, and specialize at the high school AP and SAT level. I have hundreds of hours of experience tutoring in these subjects, and I love to help my students see the beauty in physics and mathematics.

My students learn not just to write great essays, but speak confidently on and master the subjects they study. My goal as your tutor is twofold: to make you excited for each new session, and for you become a self-reliant editor and writer!
Hi I'm Sunay, I'm from Cleveland and currently a Junior at Emory University majoring in Finance and Information Systems. I'm happy to help students with Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Geometry, Precalculus, and AB Calculus. I'm also happy to help students editing, writing, or outlining essays for any AP or regular English class or for college essays. In the foreign language department, I'm happy to help Spanish students in Spanish 1 through 3. In science, I'm happy to help students currently studying AP Biology, Physics Honors, and AP Statistics. Finally, anyone needing help with ACT, SAT or PSAT Prep should come to me as I've helped students raise their scores in all sections and have achieved National Merit on the PSAT. In my free time, I'm an avid scuba diver (Galapagos, Iceland) and enjoy playing tennis with friends.

Let me help you excel at both Biology and Writing!Do you love biology, but find yourself struggling with your coursework or a few of the more difficult concepts? Are you preparing for your MCAT and need a refresher in physiology? Are you ready to ace your AP Biology exam or other science placement test? Are you actually NOT a science person, but need help with a required biology class that you're taking as a graduation requirement? Are you struggling with scientific writing? If any of those questions sound familiar, I may be the person that can help you out!I hold a bachelor's degree in Biology, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, with expertise in Physiology. However, I'm not just a run-of-the mill scientist! My real passion is teaching, and I have been teaching both high school and college students since 1997! I was licensed in high school biology in Massachusetts, and during graduate school, I participated in a variety of teaching opportunities with students in the Atlanta Public School System and in Fulton County Schools. As a teacher, my goal is to engage students and show them how even the most minute details in the material they are studying are relevant to their own personal lives. Instead of remaining bogged down in the small details (which are important!), I strive to always show my students the big picture so that they are able to understand, integrate, and apply what they are learning to new problem-solving situations. If you're looking to get a better understanding of biology, let me help you access your potential proficiency in this amazing subject!Additionally, I am available to help you improve your writing skills, regardless of the subject matter. I have extensive experience working with students who are trying to improve their science writing but I also have a background in English and Education which means that I have written outside of the Science disciplines as well. I love helping students improve with each writing assignment they may have and will provide extremely thorough feedback to help facilitate these improvements!

I am a graduate of Emory University and received a Bachelor of Science in both Biology and Anthropology. My collegiate coursework focused heavily on the biological sciences, including evolutionary Biology, Microbiology, Ecology, Biological Anthropology and Math. I have been passionate about science since I was a child and have always enjoyed sharing that passion with others. As a long-time member of the Boy Scouts of America and with three younger brothers, mentoring and teaching has been a large part of my life and something I sincerely enjoy. It is my wish to not only help others gain factual knowledge, but to ignite an academic curiosity and the determination to constantly discover more about the world around us. Connecting with the student is of utmost importance. A mutual trust is necessary in order to not only help the student learn, but to help them become most confident in their great abilities. While not tutoring, I enjoy hiking and camping, and am currently planning to pursue a graduate degree in the field of development.

I am a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where I received my Bachelor of Sciences in Anthropology and Human Biology with a minor in Predictive Health. After I graduated, I worked as a laboratory assistant at a cardiology lab at Emory University School of Medicine. While I am interested in chemistry, math among others in STEM, I am very passionate about biotechnology and general biology including genetics, physiology, and cell biology. As an aspiring dentist, I am currently working towards getting a dental degree. During my undergraduate career, I had several experiences of helping other students with learning materials and quiz/exam preparation. I am excited to have another opportunity to help other students again through Varsity Tutors because I truly believe that education is absolutely imperative to a better quality of life and that everyone is fully capable of learning and making potentials to reality. As for tutoring, I put much emphasis on active participation and positive reinforcement. A learning environment should stay interactive, fun, but challenging. By encountering challenges, I believe a student's potential could rise. Besides my life in academia, I enjoy traveling, photography, and physical activities including hiking, running, and skiing during winter.
I am a rising sophomore studying at Emory University. I'm pursuing a degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and Computer Science. I have a passion for problem solving, and I love working with students because they often allow me to observe problems from new perspectives. I view tutoring as a win-win relationship. Not only do I have the opportunity to enrich students' knowledge and intuition in a variety of concepts, but I also get the chance improve my own understanding of concepts by gaining perspective.

I have worked as a tutor for a number of years with students in various subjects and educational levels. As a former elementary school teacher, I also worked with students at the elementary/middle school level in English language arts and math.I began my professional career as an elementary school tutor in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. I loved teaching all subjects, but my favorites were writing and math. I currently work as a researcher studying problems related to medical education and medical workforce development.I have a BA from Emory University in pyschology, a master's in elementary education from American University and a PhD from Teachers College, Columbia University in measurement, evaluation and statistics.
I graduated from Emory University with degrees in chemistry and violin performance. I am currently working as a medical assistant in dermatology until I start medical school in the fall at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. I have always had a passion for helping others, and one way I could do so was by tutoring students so that they could achieve their full potential. During my time as an undergraduate, I was a part of the Emory Dream Project, a student-run organization that tutored at a local high school. I helped students with their algebra, trigonometry, and pre-calculus coursework. I particularly love tutoring math and physics because there are many different approaches to solving one problem. If one way does not make sense to the student, we can try another method that may click with them.
I graduated college Summa Cum Laude with a double major in Anthropology and Neuroscience. My favorite subject is actually a combination of the two, studying how evolution has shaped human culture, brain, and behavior. I've been a tutor for various subjects and age groups with a particular interest in mathematics. I really enjoy the sciences, but I also find math to be incredibly relaxing and rewarding once you get the grasp of the concept.
My passion is education. I have taught in three countries in three languages to a wide range of students at universities, non-profits and private companies. I have a knack for making the difficult seem easy and interesting. Our sessions are light and jovial in tone, yet focused and deliberate in approach. I hold a B.A. in Economics from Emory University and a Masters degree and PhD coursework in Art History. When I am not working, I love to explore New York City and discover new things about it. Writing excites me, and I am working on a book about my experiences overseas. I am also very athletic. Having completed two marathons, you can say I enjoy a good run. I love being on the water and know how to sail.
I am a recent graduate from Emory University, earning a BA in chemistry and a minor in sociology. I have spent the last 7-8 years tutoring students in all grade levels (K-12 and college) in subjects such as math, English, and chemistry. In addition, I have a strong background in tutoring for standardized testing such as SAT math and the ACT. Throughout undergrad, I served as a teaching assistant in chemistry, and I have volunteered as a tutor for the Homework Helpline for grade school children. Therefore, I would love to connect with you about subjects that you may need to navigate!
I am currently a rising junior at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia although I am originally from Chicago, IL. I am double majoring in Psychology and English. My current GPA is a 3.9 and I have taken a wide range of courses. I was editor in chief of my school's newspaper, competed internationally for our Model UN team, and I currently college counsel low-income high-achieving students at high schools in downtown Atlanta, in addition to tutoring multiple students in ACT/SAT prep, English, Biology, and History. This includes helping them prepare for standardized tests, editing essays and applications, and generating lists of potential institutions to apply to. I received a 35 on my ACT. In the past, I was a teacher's assistant at a home and school for severely autistic children ages 9-14, and worked on overcoming communicative barriers to foster interpersonal connections. I have also tutored multiple children with learning disabilities. In my experience, getting students engaged is just about finding the strategy that works best for them. That may mean we have to try multiple approaches, or approaches that I don't prefer, but I am willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that incredible feeling with a student when they finally grasp a concept.
I am currently a graduate student at the Rutgers Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences - New Brunswick/Piscataway campus. Although I am pursuing a medical career, I am a firm advocate of education. In terms of how my belief meshes with my interest in medicine, patient education should play a large part in patient care. Education leads a greater understanding of underlying health issues, causes, and risks which leads to a greater chance in patient compliance. However, before I even came to be where I am now, education has always been a priority for me. My parents are immigrants from a South Korea that was still developing. Thus, they work and struggle in the United States for the sake of their children's education though they themselves do not have more than a high school education - if even that. I was raised to pursue higher education, but once I graduated college and started working during my gap year, I truly came to realize the importance of education and appreciate the academic opportunities I have had thus far. Without education, without a solid foundation in the basics that are later built upon in college and university, there is no personal or societal progress.
I am an undergraduate student studying Neuroscience and Religion at Emory University. I've been tutoring for over three years, and I have extensive experience tutoring math all the way from Algebra 1 to Calculus 2. I am extremely passionate about helping students understand and love what they are learning, and in my experience, my tutoring style of focusing on the underlying concepts of a subject has been very successful. I find students that are able to critically apply what they have learned to new problems are the most successful, and I strive to make every one of my students adopt this mentality. I love getting to know my students on a personal level, and speaking to them about my love for undergraduate research, dancing, and sports!
I am a third year Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology major at Emory University. My tutoring career unofficially began helping my younger siblings with homework, but has since professionalized! I have tutored students ranging in age, interest, background, and academic capabilities. In the past year, I spent most of my time tutoring 3rd to 6th graders, working on math, reading, writing, and science homework. I also edited college English and biology papers. My favorite subjects to tutor are writing and the sciences! I love to get to know my student's interests and fill sessions with fun activities and relevant discussions. My primary goal in tutoring is to build my students' confidence, both in the material and in their ability to take control of their learning. Most importantly, I try to relate what we're learning to real world problems! In my spare time, I like to read the Economist, read a good book, hang with friends and run.
As a dedicated educator with a Doctorate in Physics from Emory University, I have over 5 years of tutoring experience in subjects ranging from AP Calculus AB to various levels of Physics, including AP Physics 1 and 2, and Physical Chemistry. My teaching philosophy emphasizes creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel confident to tackle challenging concepts. I connect with each student by tailoring my instructional methods to their unique learning styles, fostering not only comprehension but also a genuine enthusiasm for the material. My passion for teaching stems from the joy of inspiring students to reach their academic goals. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy crocheting, running, and reading about scientific advancements of today.
I now live in Gilbert, Arizona. Previously, I was a government contractor and have a long background in education. I have an MA in French and international relations from Middlebury Institute of International Studies. My BA was from Emory University in International Studies plus linguistics. I speak three languages and have extensive experience teaching them, including English. I personally learned English through ESL classes and a few other languages in my adult years so I know how difficult it can be but also how rewarding it is to see life through different languages and cultures. I'm an expert in international relations, history, linguistics, and most humanity subjects. I feel confident in these areas due to my education and work experience in government in DC and abroad. The most fun fact about my background is that I have worked for the oldest living U.S president! If you require help with AP classes in history, English, French or most humanity subjects, please contact me and I would love to help!
Hi there! My name is Andrew, and I want to help you ace the MCAT! As a recent Emory graduate and current 2021-2022 MD applicant, I know all too well how discouraging it can feel to invest your time and energy into content review and practice, only for that hard work to not materialize as a score increase. My goal as a tutor is to prevent this by demystifying common MCAT misconceptions and pointing you towards the test prep resources that can help you make the most of your time spent studying. I will also try to pinpoint any gaps in your understanding of the content, so you can build up the foundation of knowledge you will need to get the most value from practice questions. Finally, I can provide the proven tips and strategies I used to climb from a 507 on my diagnostic full length to a 524 on the real deal - a 100th percentile score. For example, instead of gimmicky highlighting or writing outlines, I can show you how to improve your reading comprehension pace so CARS no longer seems like a coin toss. Instead of getting caught on throwaway details on B/B, I will show you how to focus on the salient information the AAMC wants you to take away from the passage. As I spend my upcoming year going through the rest of the medical school application process, it is my sincere hope that I can help you achieve your goals on a timeline that works for you, and I look forward to potentially meeting and working with you in the future.
I am currently a PhD candidate at Northwestern University, studying microbiology and public health (my two biggest passions). I received my Bachelor of Science with high honors from Emory University in 2011, where I double-majored in Biology and Spanish. During my time at Emory, I studied abroad in Australia working on barrier reef and rainforest ecology, and studied in Spain mastering my Spanish language skills. I can read and write Spanish with high proficiency and have tutored Spanish speakers, and received highest scores on the AP Spanish exam with listening. My favorite academic subjects are math and science, and I have received perfect scores on a variety of standardized math exams, including SAT I math, SAT II math IIC subject test, BC calculus AP exam, and the GRE quantitative exam. In addition to tutoring mathematics at all levels, I enjoy tutoring grammar and mechanics, and editing essays. I received the Carlos C. Rojas Excellence in Writing Award from Emory University, and have served on the editorial board for Emory University's undergraduate research journal, as well as have authored peer-reviewed manuscripts at Northwestern University. I have lectured to undergraduate students at Northwestern University in cell biology, and have taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in both a classroom setting and one-on-one. I have a very diverse background of knowledge and have worked in a variety of settings, both academic and in industry, and can meet any of your tutoring needs. I am a very patient person with excellent communication and listening skills who will take the time to get to know each of my tutees. After identifying and recognizing a tutee's own strengths and weaknesses, I can tailor a unique tutoring plan to help each student exceed his or her goals.
I am a recent graduate of Emory University, where I received my BA in Psychology and Linguistics, while also majoring in Chinese. I am currently working towards my MA in Applied Linguistics at Georgia State University. I primarily tutor reading comprehension and writing because I have a passion for both of these skills. My goal is to have every student love writing and reading as much as I do. I have experience with working with students all over the world, from China to Saudi Arabia to the United States. My approach to tutoring is to make it as personalized as possible and have me and the student work collaboratively to get to the answer, instead of the student being told the answer and be expected to understand it.Overall, I hope to spread my passion for education and learning to more students. I look forward to helping you!
I am graduate of a Top 20 university, Emory University, and a recent law school graduate from Georgia State University College of Law.With skillsets in English and Writing that I mastered in college, I attained a passion for sharing these skillsets with students. I believe that EVERY student has the ability to become a talented writer, no matter their circumstance, no matter their background. With patience, time and proper guidance, the English and Writing skills I have been able to share with my students has allowed them to not only become great writers, but has also expanded their creative minds and has advanced their academic lives holistically.Other subject matters that I've mastered in my college career and have a personal passion for sharing knowledge range from American and World History, World Religions, and Arabic.
As an undergraduate I was a teacher's assistant, then spent a year between college and law school teaching English at a high school in France. I graduated from the University of Georgia Honors Program with dual degrees in History and and Economics, and a Minor in Classical Culture. I then attended Emory University School of Law where I graduated with honors.I spent almost four years at an Am Law 100 firm practicing general commercial litigation. I recently moved over to the City Solicitor's Office, Civil Right's Division to get some trial experience.
