I am an experienced Special Education/Elementary Education Teacher. I am fun and love to make learning fun for all students. My strengths at the secondary level are in Math and Social Studies, however I taught 5th and 6th grade for 10 years before moving on to the secondary level. I am very reputable and dependable. I've been tutoring 7th grader and a 9th grader in English Language Arts for about 3 years on VT. I accel at teaching how to understand text and am skillfull at breaking it down to the students' level. I also have experience teaching chess and have participated in one tournament. If you're an advanced chess player, I'm probably not the best fit for you. I'm experienced at teaching openings and some middle game formations.

I am a graduate of Washburn University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a focus on special education. After graduation I began teaching in the Gardner/ Edgerton school district. During my five years as an educator, I had the opportunity to teach a variety of grade levels including 6th, 4th, and 2nd. While I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about math and reading. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping a young person recognize their potential and giving them tools to help them succeed. I believe a solid, well-rounded education is undeniably one of the most important things in life. In my spare time I enjoy playing with my twin daughters, being outdoors, playing soccer, and just relaxing with a good book.
I'm a Ph.D. candidate in French Studies at UCLA finishing my dissertation about contemporary French literature. My main research specializations are French language and literature. However, I also have a certification in critical theory and conduct research in cultural studies and music history. I have taught first- and second-year French classes at UCLA for four years, and before that, I taught first-year French for 3 years at the University of Kansas. My tutoring experience goes back to 2002, when I became a tutor for my university's French program. I quickly discovered that I enjoyed tutoring and was able to help struggling students succeed. I have worked as a private self-employed tutor, a tutor for university language department and athletics programs, a contractor for the US State Department, and as a tutor for other private tutoring agencies. In my 15 years of tutoring experience, I have tutored foreign language, ESL, writing, humanities subjects, social sciences, reading, literature, and test taking skills. I have worked with children, teenagers, college students, and adult lifelong learners. Personally, I love working with students of all ages. It is important to me that I help students with different learning styles and interests find the study techniques that work best for them.My tutoring style is informed by my interests in digital learning resources and holistic pedagogy. In my lessons, I integrate videos, blogs, apps, and interactive online exercises. These media resources help students engage their senses, challenge themselves, and find their own strengths. To help students master complex tasks and subjects, I break concepts and tasks down into smaller, more understandable components and steps. Doing this helps demystify complex assignments and tasks, while allowing students to work at their own pace and master each step before continuing. I ensure that students build a solid foundation of knowledge in their subject of study and acquire problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Additionally, through my highly responsive guidance, I help my students find what motivates them to learn. My students tell me that the combination of improvement to their knowledge and the discovery of their intrinsic motivation makes them feel confident about themselves as learners.I wanted to become a scholar because I love exploring and deconstructing ideas and finding new ways to look at old problems. My passion for research extends naturally into my teaching and tutoring approach, where I help students find their strengths, develop new critical thinking and study skills, and approach challenging tasks and ideas with confidence. I would love to help you learn and feel confident about your ability to take on new scholarly challenges.
I am a graduate of Washburn University and currently pursuing Graduate coursework at University at Albany. I received my Bachelor's of Science in both Forensic Chemistry and Chemistry, and am currently pursuing a Master's in Chemistry. I enjoy tutoring students in my field because I enjoy seeing students who are equally as passionate about chemistry and all the hard science studies. I utilize a hands on building approach to tutoring, in which I first cover the basics of a concept with a student and slowly build the narrative of the lesson with the student. Once the student has a better base to ask questions from, I will move into more abstract examples and deeper concepts. In my spare time I enjoy reading, video games, tabletop gaming, music especially, and many facets of "Nerd Culture". I am a friendly and extroverted person who loves meeting new people and learning their hobbies and interests.
I have had twenty-two years teaching in public and private schools. The early years were primarily 5th and 6th grades. The later years have been spent in middle and high school. I also homeschooled my three children for seven years. Two of my children have dyslexia, so I learned what works best with them. I love working with kids of all ages and try to help them in any way I can.I love to travel, spend time with family and friends, read novels, and entertain my dog and two cats. I am looking forward to having grandchildren. My hobbies are scrapbooking and gardening.
I tutor Spanish at all levels. I studied Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University. I have a BA in Spanish with a Portuguese minor. My Spanish evaluation upon graduation was "advanced high." This is one level below native. I do not have an foreign accent in Spanish or Portuguese (Brazilian). I taught at a language learning center working with 19 to 21 year olds. I have also taught Spanish as a long term substitute. I lived in the Dominican Republic for 2 years over two separate occasions. I have over 20 experience speaking Spanish. When teaching, I focus on helping students understand concepts that can be difficult grasp (i.e. subjunctive, pretreat vs. imperfect). The language is much easier to grasp when the student understands the "why" of a concept.I also studied law at Washburn University School of Law. I am a licensed attorney. Teaching Spanish is something that I really enjoy because I understand the process and it is rewarding to help people get over the conceptual humps along the way to fluency.
I believe that every student has the potential to succeed. This begins with empowering students by building a strong foundation of confidence and understanding, developing critical thinking skills, and working together to overcome academic challenges. I am a student at Washburn University and will graduate with my B.A. in Philosophy in December 2024. I am also continuing my first year at Washburn University School of Law pursuing a Juris Doctor. My favorite subjects to tutor are English, Writing, Philosophy, and Government because those are subjects I enjoy learning about myself. I look forward to contributing to helping students find their own unique learning style and begin the lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Hi! I'm excited to help you make great learning achievements! I believe that tailoring a plan for those achievements should focus on flexibility and differentiation, as well as learning styles and previous achievements and challenges. I do this through an initial diagnostic and continuous analysis of learning data in order to adjust for each student as they need. I have worked in education since 2004. I have taught elementary school fourth and fifth grades, as well as middle school American history and middle school math. I have spent time tutoring pre-service teachers to take their licensure exams. I have also been trained in various capacities, such as social, emotional learning, English language, learning, and training for professional development within the school district. I have obtained my bachelors and masters of arts in education and am currently a licensed teacher in the state of Kansas.
I graduated from Washburn University in 2020 with a degree in Elementary Education. Since then I have worked in Title 1 schools in Kansas serving underprivileged students of different ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. I have taught virtually and in person with four years of teaching and tutoring experience. I am most passionate about teaching math, reading and social studies. Outside of teaching I am a massive Chiefs fan, enjoy working in the yard and spending time outside either running or riding my bike.
As an Alumna of Rockhurst University, I have dedicated my career and voluntary work to advocacy and education. I am currently attending Law School at Washburn University as I wanted to obtain a career to use my reading and writing skills for advocacy. I enjoy teaching English, Reading, and Writing skills as they are the foundation for any academic or professional opportunity. During undergraduate I ran my own mentoring program where I assisted high school students with english essays, scholarship essays, and reading skills, In which every senior in the program was accepted into college and received scholarships. Concurrently, I served as a Girl Scout Troop leader where I practiced sight words, reading comprehension, and writing skills using microphones and bubbles. I believe that a creative education space builds resilience and critical thinking skills which will nicely accompany a strong foundation of reading and writing skills.
