My name is Justina. I began tutoring through my University where I studied physics and fine arts and I really enjoyed it. I think the process of teaching and discussing material can be hugely beneficial for both the tutor and the student. I am very well versed in Physics and Calculus and enjoy discussing them a great deal. In the future I hope to continue on in physics in graduate school.Out side of academics I enjoy hiking and camping as well as painting and sculpting.

For several years I was the Remedial Reading specialist for the Utica school district. I have worked with students from grade school to high school.

Tutoring is a unique process that is individualized and personal, yet grounded and informed. More specifically, I've come to believe that each student coming to Varsity Tutors should be treated on a case by case basis - depending on the student's personality, willingness to contribute and learning style. No two students should be approached the same. This personalized attention sets tutors apart from teachers and professionals because it allows each session to be more engaging and stimulating.Effective collaboration is essential for the tutee to get the most help in improving as a student. When the student feels comfortable in opening up about his/her work, I've found that the tutoring time is much more productive for both the tutor and the tutee. In order to create an intellectually simulating environment, I find that establishing a positive rapport from the moment the tutor meets the tutee is essential. Simple gestures like giving a firm handshake, smiling and enthusiasm really show the students that I am open to conversation and questions. This unique collaboration process is what really helps to make each tutorial personal, engaging and worthwhile.It is also important to make clear in the beginning of the session that learning is a process that will involve mistakes. Therefore, students should not walk in expecting to come out perfect. Rather, seeing small improvements each session that carry out into all of their education.Through collaborations that help the tutee throughout the learning process, I am available to offer assistance in; organizing, strategizing, creating effective study skills and organizing thoughts. Moreover, I am not here to simply correct and rewrite solutions. The student must maintain sole ownership of his/her work. While I understand that certain students may require a more directive firm of tutoring than others, being more directive does not mean simply giving out the solution. Rather, it may mean being more instructive and allowing the tutee to practice what was just learned.

I currently have a Masters of Science of Education in Counseling from Alfred University, NY and Advanced Certificates in Grief Counseling and Play Therapy. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and Secondary Education from Queens College. I have taught Spanish for about 9 years and tutored Spanish privately on and off for about 5 years.I love tutoring Spanish. I know the struggles and challenges that students face when trying to learn another language. I make learning Spanish fun and as easy but always relating new vocabulary and content to everyday life for each learner. I believe that all students have the capacity to learn and do well in a foreign language and that educators should take the time to know their students so that lessons can be tailored to meet their specific and individual needs. All students have different learning styles and I do my best to differentiate my teaching style to accommodate the students that I teach.Aside from teaching/tutoring I love reading, music, writing songs and travelling and exploring different places.I look forward to working with students of all ages and skill levels and to make this learning experience as stress free and comfortable as possible. :)

I'm currently a PhD student in mechanical engineering at UT Austin. I really enjoy teaching and tutoring, especially math, science, and engineering!Outside of school, may main hobbies are mountain biking, snowboarding, and lifting weights.

I specialize in ACT, SAT and GED preparation. I was lucky to grow up in western New York with parents and a community that installed positive values. I earned a BS degree in Ceramic Engineering, minor in mathematics, which I love. After 20 years of corporate sales experience and 15 years as a winery business owner that I helped grow and then sell, I then decided to pursue my passion to help others. I chose ventures in real estate and tutoring mathematics in which both careers require helping and providing guidance. I plan to be there every step of the way. I am a graduate student at the University of Minnesota studying for a Ph.D. in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education with a focus on Biology Education. I have received my Master of Science in Biology from Texas State University and have done research on how biology faculty develops and implements a new active-learning biology course. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with minors in psychology and chemistry. Currently, I have been focusing on writing a curriculum for an introductory biology course and teaching 3rd grade. I have worked with a range of students at different educational levels. I teach a wide range of subjects; however, I find biology to be my passion. One of my passions is working with students to find their strengths when they think they have none and to help them learn the way that works for them. In my experience, learning can be fun and I want everyone to enjoy learning different topics the way they need to and I strive to help them find what can be interesting to them when they do not think it could be. When I am not working, I enjoy reading a variety of books that can be a story to dive into or more informational books that are to keep me learning about things I feel I want to learn more about.

With experience ranging from individualized tutoring to community-based programs, Miss Allison founded a unique tutoring initiative that integrates emotional regulation, confidence-building, and executive functioning skills directly into academic learning. Her work is grounded in the belief that students thrive when they feel seen, supported, and empowered. Prior to launching her program, Miss. Allison contributed to the O.B.A.M.A. initiative, providing academic assistance to families temporarily housed throughout Brooklyn.
