My name is Jasmine Casilla and I am excited to share my heart with you regarding education and how I have (in the past) and hope to (in the future) make an impact for generations to come. I entered into education because of my love of languages. First, I pursued and achieved fluency in Spanish. I wanted to learn the native languages of my father's heritage, so I also studied and achieved conversational language abilities in Portuguese as well. I rounded out my love of languages with a year of both Latin and Mandarin Chinese. Essentially, I went through a phase of wanting to learn every language because I wanted to speak with as many people as possible, I even studied linguistics and the International Phonetic Alphabet so that I would be able to transcribe any language should the need arise, rather or not I spoke the language. My love of languages carried me into my next passion; children and my desire to share Latino culture with them! As a result I came to a few truths about how students learn. I believe every student has the ability to learn and that every student has the right to learn. As a result I vow to always do my part to ensure that ALL students are in an environment conducive to learning. On this educational adventure, I have taught all ages of students in private schools, public schools, international schools and even community college. With that said, I appreciate what I have gleaned from my experiences outside of the traditional role of teaching (but still within the confines of the school building). I have interpreted, coached volleyball/cheerleading, managed basketball score-boards, led clubs, taught line-dancing and facilitated county wide Zumba for school district staff. My willingness to expand my experiences beyond my class is what allowed me to see and fall in love with all the facets of school. What some may perceive as a burden, I count as a privilege and a never-ending joy! I delight in helping to meet the needs of students and I always try to do so with a willing and open heart.
