About Me

I chose Social Policy as my concentration (and I also delved into a variety of Gender Studies classes).I'm grateful for my education at Northwestern because my institution demanded that I engage beyond the textbook and into the realm of community and culture. From tutoring children in reading who were diagnosed with dyslexia to mentoring students in the Chicago Public School system, I've constantly looked for ways to listen, learn, and serve youth. The most transformational experience I had was leading a summer programming poetry class at a Chicago based nonprofit that served HIV, homeless, and/or refugee youth and families. I still recall the lessons learned - both in the classroom and beyond the page. Collectively we transformed our understanding of spoken word and improved our overall comprehension through poetry. Since graduation, I have continued to seek opportunities in nonprofits (specifically in the Chicago area). I currently work in the Endowments and Foundations section of a private wealth management firm. My mission is to serve my community through strategic, well-researched, and intentional means. Beyond the social sector space, I still have quite a few friends in the high school and college age group. As such, I've been tutoring them in writing papers (term papers and application essays included!). Needless to say, I enjoy helping others in writing, reading comprehension, and editing (for any age group!).While I am extensively familiar with a variety of teaching styles (from my degree and volunteer experiences), my tutoring style is unique because I am able to connect with students at their level and then strategically show them how to improve through examples and practice. Admittedly, I am an empath, which allows me to connect and engage with the student's struggle in a variety of subjects. That being said, I'm also a problem-solver; it's not enough to just connect, as there needs to be solution. After meeting a student at their point of confusion or struggle, I'm able to look for methodologies or real-life applications so as to help the student grasp the concept and excel in their studies (with the intention of going beyond a class). In short, a student who might struggle in reading or writing could very well be the next Maya Angelou or Edith Wharton. It's my job - my purpose - to ensure they know they can work to reach their potential. In other words, struggle is opportunity - not an obstacle. I appreciate the lessons I learn from students and am honored to work with you!

Hobbies & Interests

I'm always looking for the latest research citations in my particular fields of interest (i.e., social policy, critical race theory, and current events related to political governance and organizing). I'm always ready for a Harry Potter movie marathon!
