As an Environmental Educator for New York State Parks, I act as a jack-of-all-trades for the thousands of visitors who come to our natural areas every summer. One day I could be giving a program on the geological formation of the Finger Lakes; another day, I could be hiking park trails to make sure everyone is safe and accounted for. Regardless of what I'm doing on any given day, one of the key components of my job is the ability to understand, paraphrase, and communicate complicated concepts to the public. Combined with my personal experience in coaching youth volleyball and serving as an interpreter for the US Forest Service last year, I have found I'm able to explain ideas well to people regardless of their background knowledge on any given topic.
