About Me
In both employment and volunteer situations, I have extensive experience with childhood education, having tutored at a boys' elementary charter school in Brooklyn; worked as a site assistant at a YMCA elementary after school program in New Hampshire; tutored at a women's shelter in Boston; acted as a reading buddy at a Boys and Girls club in Boston; and volunteered at a nursery school in New Hampshire. In addition to these formal settings of education assistance, I was a counselor at a co-ed YMCA summer camp for six years, which gave me countless opportunities to grow my own understanding of how kids learn. I believe elementary education is as much about understanding the student's way of thinking and helping her or him absorb the material in a way that compliments that approach as it is a one-way impartation of knowledge. As such I try very hard to patiently go through each step of the student's thought process with him or her, in order to personalize my tutoring to the student. Having worked with children for so long I absolutely believe that they all have incredible brilliance in ways that are not always exposed by standard education, so I try very hard to tap into that imagination in order to help them become the best scholars they can be. I spend the majority of my free time reading, watching documentaries, biking, swimming, walking around New York, traveling by the subway to new places, and attending free events in the city.
