Hello. I received a Bachelors of Arts from the University of Florida in Classical Studies, and a Bachelors of Arts from Florida International University in English. Although my first degree is in the field of ancient Greek and Roman societies, I returned to school for my true passion which is English and all that is involved in it. Reading and writing has been a major part of my life since the second grade, where this fervor was first instilled in me. While a student at FIU, I worked at the center for Excellence in Writing as a Writing Consultant, helping students with their fear of writing and working with them to make them better writers rather than just get the grade they immediately need. As a writing tutor, I was reminded that everyone has the ability to become a good writer; however, many of them fear it because they believe they have nothing more to say on any given topic. Here I step in and encourage students, conversing with them about the process and show them that what they have to say is truly important. This leads to more confidence in their work and better writing in the long term. Besides my official tutoring experience, I have volunteered at multiple schools, mainly an Elementary School where my mother is a first grade teacher. Academically, I have been an active of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society at FIU, and Eta Sigma Phi, the Classics Honor Society at UF. Currently I am working on applying for my Masters in Fine Arts for Creative Writing, which will hopefully then lead me to a PhD to ultimately become a professor of Writing at the college level. Many schools are on my list of applications, and although it can be daunting, I know the experiences I have had as a tutor will help me to become a better writer. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching good movies, and engrossing myself in good books. I love the written word. I know many times students hate reading and writing. I hope to have some influence to change that.
